Back in February I read an Indieflix blog post about a filmmaker they rejected on the basis of content. It refused to say who the filmmaker is or the title of the film in question, but talked about how well-made it was, and mentioned it had won several awards.
I immediately posted, saying I was anxious to know more. Unfortunately they never responded. So then a few weeks later I e-mailed them directly, asking my message to be forwarded on to the filmmaker. Still no response. Then last week I decided I'd try again; they finally carried out my request, and the filmmaker, Andrew Repasky McElhinny, contacted me right off.
And promptly blew my socks off. This guy's younger than me, but already has had a minor career going the past 11 years. His work sounds like a cross between Mathew Barney, Guy Maddin, Stanley Kubrick, and my own work. In short, everything I could hope for! Wow...I'm buying all his stuff, reading every article, and making a point of following his career with great interest. I think he just kicked up my creative drive another few notches.
This guy has pretty much convinced me of how to better put my priorities in focus. I've been struggling for years with the Hollywood vs. art film route, and feeling elated as I just did merely reading his site, I know there can be no doubt for me.
