“YOU HAVE A KISSING SCENE WITH OHGO SUZUKA.”
Yuto looked at him blankly before turning to Yabu with an accusing look. “You told him!”
Yabu shook his head and threw up his hands in defense. “I swear I didn’t say a word.”
“YOU HAVE A KISSING SCENE WITH OHGO SUZUKA.”
“Then how did he… YAMADA! You took my script!”
“YOU HAVE A KISSING SCENE WITH OHGO SUZUKA.”
“I can’t believe you went in my bag and took my script! And shut up, I KNOW I HAVE A KISSING SCENE WITH SUZUKA.”
Yamada finally seemed to snap out of his automated response mode and began waving the stolen script frantically in front of Yuto’s face, looking highly ticked off and rather like Shida Mirai when she was angry at the boys for staring too much at Irie Saaya’s breasts. “You. Have a kissing scene. With your biggest crush. And YOU DIDN’T TELL ME! I’m hurt, Yuto! I replaced those drumsticks, damnit, I thought we were back to trusting each other.”
“How can I trust you when you just screamed it out to the entire jimusho?!”
Yamada paused in his flailing and looked around, and at least had the decency to blush. “Oh. Well. They’d find out sooner or later! But don’t you try to distract me, Nakajima Yuto, we are talking about this and we are talking now!”
“Now? Right now?”
“Yes.”
“In the locker room?”
“… yes.”
Yuto shook his head and whacked Yamada with his towel before heading off to the shower, ignoring Yamada’s whines and shouting, “DON’T FOLLOW ME INTO THE SHOWER!”
Four weeks ago Yuto had been handed the script to his new drama role; it was a supporting role, but he was just happy to have one again. Plus, it was with Tackey. No one could not be happy about a drama role with Takizawa Hideaki, it was literally impossible. And there were some other well known actors, too, and some he had even worked with before, and then right below his name on the list of cast members was OHGO SUZUKA.
There was nothing wrong with this news, really. He’d be out of his mind to complain about working with Suzuka, and not just because, as Yamada put it, she was his biggest crush. She was a great actress, and fun to work with. She had even given him a friendly smile the next day in class and the cutest little “yoroshiku!” when they talked casually about it, which did nothing to stop the “awwwws!” and camera flashes in the classroom but had made his entire day, anyway. He was really looking forward to the filming, if it meant he could work with one of his most admired senpai and the girl he liked.
And then Yuto read the script.
“I thought I wasn’t allowed to kiss anyone until I was 30!” Yuto stated in a panic to Yabu, who was trying to keep on his kind, understanding leader face and not laugh too much at the pale faced, I’m-about-to-throw-up-last-night’s-dinner look Yuto sported.
“If I can have a threesome at 19, you can have a kiss at 16,” Yabu pointed out, scowling a bit at the memory. He still hadn’t lived that down. “And it’s not even a full make out, just a small kiss on the lips. No big deal. You’ve kissed her before.”
Yuto blushed at the memory, a very pleasant one, and shook his head. “I-I know. But. It’s a kiss. On national television. With people watching. The fangirls, Yabu! The fangirls!” They were scary! Yuto didn’t know who to fear for more, himself or Suzuka. Probably Suzuka.
“Don’t worry. It’s just one, tiny little kiss, what’s the worst that could happen? You should be looking forward to this, you know.”
Groaning, Yuto slumped forward onto the table to sulk. It wasn’t that he wasn’t looking forward to it- he was, more than he cared to admit. But now that he knew there was this whole kissing scene involved, and she surely did too by now, it was so awkward. The ‘no dating’ rule at Horikoshi meant that even though they both liked each other and both knew of each other’s feelings they could never do anything about it- even without Horikoshi, Johnny’s would frown on such a relationship. They had been out on a few group ‘dates’ before with their classmates and friends, and could play and flirt when they happened to be the two on cleaning duty for the day, but anything more than that was a wistful dream. A dream that hurt when he was reminded of it, and this drama certainly wasn’t helping him forget.
“It’s just a kiss,” he repeated, running a hand through his hair. “Just a kiss. Just one, little kiss.”
Why oh why was life never as easy ‘it’s just this’ or ‘it’s just that’? And why did he always end up on the floor when he was left alone in an awkward situation with Ohgo Suzuka?
Suzuka looked like she didn't know what to do, looking down at him and sighing and tapping her foot on the crowd. “What are you doing?” she said flatly, raising an eyebrow when he turned the shade of a tomato and looked away. “Oi, Yuto, you’re not supposed to be on the ground! It’s not in the script!” Either way she smiled and held out a hand to him.
“S-sorry- gah! Ugh,” he groaned as he rose to his feet, wishing he could sink into the floor. “W-won’t happen again.”
“What’s wrong? You weren’t acting like this during rehearsal yesterday,” she asked, sitting back down in her seat. “Is it me? I’m hurt, Yuto-kun, am I making you nervous?” She was giggling and smiling at first, but the meek look on his face made her stop and sigh, no longer looking all that amused. “You don’t have to be nervous, it’s just me. You know I’m not going to bite you… or your tongue? That’s what you’re worried about, isn’t it, this kiss?” She smirked slightly and then turned towards him, grinning in a way that reminded him of Shida and therefore made him very, very worried. “Well if you’re so worried about it, Yuto-kun, we can go ahead and practice it. Just to make sure it’s perfect.”
Yuto was stiff in his chair as Suzuka leaned forward, her soft lips touching his gently, exactly like the first time they kissed back in the classroom. Suzuka pulled back and promptly frowned at the blank look on Yuto’s face, sitting back in her seat. “Look,” she said, uncharacteristically soft, “If you don’t like me anymore you could just say so. It’s fine.”
“N-no!” Yuto said quickly, quite sure his heart was about to die at the way she bit at her bottom lip and was clearly a bit upset at this thought. “No, that’s not it at all! I like you a lot!” Cue blushing from both of them, and Yuto continuing to stutter, “It’s just. I. I just. … h-how can you act so… carefree about this?”
“It’s just a kiss, Yuto-kun.” Yuto paused, frowned, and looked away, because that wasn’t exactly what he wanted to hear. Suzuka sighed and added in a softer voice, “I mean, that’s what I tell myself. If I don’t I remember how much it sucks, which hurts. It’s either pretend that nothing’s wrong or get depressed over it.”
“I guess I’m not very good at pretending,” Yuto mumbled, feeling rather lousy at this moment. “I suck.”
“You do not suck, loser,” she grumbled, poking his forehead. “And I think it’s cute, kinda, though I’m sorry you’re freaking out so much.”
“I am not!”
Suzuka looked at him pointedly and Yuto ducked his head and mumbled, “Okay I am.”
Giggling in that way that made her nose wrinkle up cutely and distracted Yuto greatly, she flicked him on the nose this time. “We whine more than Romeo and Juliet. We’re not going to pine away and die. It sucks, but don’t think of it as something you have to pretend at. Think of it as… an opportunity.”
“H-huh?”
Yuto nearly did his falling-out-of-the-chair trick when her arms were suddenly around his neck and her face close enough to his to make him turn red. Again. “We’re alone, and they did tell us to practice… so why don’t we? Purely for the good of the drama, of course,” she said, smirking in a mind-breaking kind of way. Because really, Yuto’s mind had broke about fifteen seconds ago. She snickered at the somewhat shocked look on his face and closed the scant inches between their faces, and this time when their lips touched, they didn’t pull away so quickly.
It was probably a good thing that she seemed perfectly fine with leading the two because Yuto really had no idea what he was doing or what was going on, only that he could really grow to like this kissing thing. Her fingers twisted and tangled in his hair, running through it gently, extracting a somewhat embarrassing sound from the back of his throat and making his arms tighten around her (when had they gotten there, anyway?). In the back of his mind he figured that this was a bit more heated than the script called for and could hardly be called practice anymore, but it was hard to care too much when she was kissing him so nicely, lips parting and curious tongues slipping and-
“Yuto-kun!”
The door to the room banged open and, in his surprise and shock, Yuto slipped out of his chair (yes, again) and fell backwards, only realizing at that moment that Suzuka had actually been in his lap when she fell along with him. Now, in a heap of limbs on the floor in what he was sure was as suggestive of a position as he thought it felt like, Yuto blushed an alarming shade of red and looked up to see Tackey grinning at them rather knowingly, an eyebrow raised. “… you’re wanted on set,” he finished, stifling laughter as he shook his head and walked out, closing the door.
“… I-I should go!” Yuto squeaked, disentangling himself from Suzuka, who was looking a bit pink herself. Nearly tripping in his haste to get to the door, he yanked it open and, at last second, turned to look at her. “We should… practice. Later. T-the lines, I mean, not…”
“I’ll be waiting,” she chirped, smiling brightly. “To practice it all.”
Not for the first time Yuto remembered how awesome she was, giving a shy smile of his own. ”Yes. Uh, bye.”
Tackey was waiting outside of the room, no longer trying to hold back his laughter and looking ready to double over from it. “T-takizawa-senpai, I… that was… we… she jumped me!”
Finally regaining control of his breathing, Tackey straightened up and grinned, swinging an arm around the younger boys shoulder and steering him off. “It’s okay Yuto-kun, you don’t have to explain anything. It was just a kiss, right?” he winked.
Yuto blushed some more, the memory of her lips and body against his still lingering, and nodded furiously. “Y-yeah. Just a kiss.”
