The office was empty. The only light came from the television. A variety show was playing, but the sound was muted, so everyone on it laughed silently.
Komiya moved to turn it off, but noticed then that the office was, in fact, not empty. Kubota lay across the couch, his legs stretched out. His glasses were next to him, sunk in close to his body.
Komiya picked them up and cradled them in his hand.
It’s funny that Kubota-san needs something so fragile...so easy to break...
Under the TV’s flickering light, he held them close until Kubota opened his eyes.
