The theme music used for Captain Pugwash was a Northumbrian tune called the Trumpet Hornpipe. (follow the link for a sound clip) Although this was widely believed to be a traditional tune, the composer was in fact one Tommy Edmondson - an accordion player from Northumberland. Tommy always maintained that he was never credited with the composition by the original producers of the cartoon, and was never paid a penny in royalties. Unfortunately, Tommy died a few years ago, although he is still remembered by those in the know.
