I'm giving myself the letter F today so that I can start out my list with...
1. Friends. Many people offered their ears and shoulders yesterday when I was having one of the worst days of my year so far, and I'm so grateful for their support. Whether it's offering advice, or empathizing, offering their company or just plain listening, friends aren't just good to have around, they're vital--they're family--and I love them.
2. Food. I'm sure all of my "Things I Love" lists will have particular food items on them, but F allows me to express my general love of growing (in small ways, ie. my humble herb garden), cooking, baking, eating and sharing food. Sure there are a few things I don't particularly care for (raw onions, lamb, anything from the sea), but for me food isn't just about surviving, it's about really living.
3. Flannel...and not in the early-90's grunge way, either. I am at my most comfortable when I'm clad in a pair of flannel pajamas. I treat myself to a new pair every year, and--as much as I love summer--look forward to September when the chill returns and I can hunker down for the night in my flannel pajamas. One of the greatest sensations in the known universe is coming in from the rain, stripping off your wet clothes, and snuggling into a pair of flannels. Then, sit back and feel your body temperature rise...sweet lord that's good.
4. Fire. Speaking of great sensations, the smell and warmth of a campfire is right up there. It's not only fascinating to watch (and let's face it, play with), but fire makes food good. What's not to love?
5. Flying. Man's mastery of flight is a certifiable miracle, just ask
Louis C.K.. It has made the world incredibly small; we can go pretty much anywhere in the world we've ever dreamed of going, and see things that were at one point impossible to see unless you already lived nearby. I've got the travel bug BAD, and daydream constantly about where I'd like to go next.
6. France. Speaking of travel, France was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Paris is an incredibly gorgeous city rich with history, architecture, glamor, romance and food. Outside of Paris, visiting the Loire Valley castles and outlying cathedrals was like stepping backward in time. I'll always have a place in my heart for France, it being one of the first places outside of Ontario that I'd ever been in my 18 years; I'd love to go back and retrace my steps with my 31-year-old eyes to see what, if anything has changed.
7. Fingers. My fingers are integral to my passion; I'm not sure how I'd bake, or sculpt fondant, or pipe buttercream without them. They are how I make, create, do, touch, play...and I'm sure until now I've taken my digits for granted. I'm an incredibly tactile person, and I love feeling the texture of pretty much anything.
8. Forests. I love walking through the peaceful serenity of forests, and they always smell so darned good.
9. Facts. I love learning new things, which tend to get filed away in my trivia-addled brain.
10. Foster The People. If you aren't listening to this band, then you just aren't living. They're my new happy-upbeat go-to.
