I hate that there are gas, electric, cable and telephone monopolies. There is no customer service anymore because those companies don't have any competition. If they treat you like shit, you can't go to Joe's local gas company and get your natural gas. You just have to deal with it. Stay right where you are and give them your money or do without hot running water.
I'm pissed because I just had a pretty terrible customer service experience with DTE Energy. I moved in June and I still haven't received my gas bill. It's an easy thing to forget about calling on. Well yesterday I finally remembered and contacted them.
"Oh, ma'am, we have had your mail returned to us. Could you give us your current address?" So I did. "Well the mail was returned from your Barlow St. address." Barlow? Barlow is where I lived with my ex boyfriend four years ago! Three hours away from here.
She started telling me what I owed and I stopped her. I said that there was no way in hell I was paying the gas bill for a house I hadn't lived in for four years. She agreed with me, if that were the case. But what they actually did was read the meter for this house and mailed the gas bill for this house three hours away. WTF?
When I called and said I was moving, they changed the address where they were taking meter readings from, but not my mailing address. How fucking dumb do you have to be?
So my first bill, because I kept forgetting to call on it, will be a shut off notice.
I got no apology. The only thing she said to me was that I was the second person she had talked to that day who had that same thing happen.
