Too bad I'm going to tell you anyhow
Last night I met up with Edward at Baskin Robbin's for the free ice cream give away. We each splurged and added an extra scoop for a $1. We didn't get any of the new exotic/fancy schmancy flavors. Edward got Rocky Road and Chocolate Chip Cookie dough and I got my standard Pecan Pralines and Cream and Pistachio Almond. We decided to rent a couple of movies, I Spy with Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy, and Undercover Brother with Eddie Griffith and Chris Kattan. Both were silly-funny movies. Not spectacular but entertaining. It was exactly what we wanted and expected. I really like the Owen brothers. They have an odd sense of comedic timing but it works for them.
I got a new windshield today...
Let me back up because I know I didn't write about this before. Two Saturdays ago I was on my way to work. There was a pick up truck pulling a trailer a little ways ahead of me. Traffic was slow in the other lane so I couldn't get around it and I saw that it was dropping rocks left and right, so I decided to back off. I was driving about 150 yards behind him and still trying to find a space to go around when *SMASH!* a rock hit right at the base of my windshield. It began to crack right away. After work the crack become 2 and had gone a little ways across the window but not in my sight line. With the heat here in Texas it just cracked and cracked and cracked. It even changed direction several times and eventually went across my sight line. Those windshields are about $900. We found a company that will cover the cost of the deductible (which was only $100) so I got a new windshield for free. Well we'll see if the f*cking insurance company doesn't raise my rates.
Speaking of insurance companies...
The billing agent Elsa from my eye doctor's office called me this afternoon. She is the one who has been trying to help us fight the insurance company (Tower Life). On the phone she asked me if I had gotten a letter from Tower Life. I said no (but I had gotten a bill from her office for $4545.00). She said her office did, and guess what?! Tower Life paid the entire bill (over $6000). I was in shock! I kept saying "you're joking" I couldn't believe it. I have been fighting them since November and they kept delaying and saying they were reviewing my condition to see if it was pre-existing. The issue arose because my eye problem happened right when we got married and I got on Edward's insurance and I didn't have any insurance coverage before that. In February they said they were not going to pay for anything and the case was closed, but I had 60 days to contest their decision. This is where Elsa helped me. She and I wrote letters to Tower Life and resubmitted all my medical records. Elsa even sent a letter to the gov't agency that oversees insurance companies here in Texas. I guess they just didn't want to deal with us any more. I'm also getting reimbursed for the money I've already paid to this doctor. Yah!! I'm not sure if Tower Life is going to cover the other specialists I had to see or all the tests, blood work, and x-rays I had to get (another $3000+), but it's better than nothing. Hopefully this means they will cover all that and I will get reimbursed for what I paid on those bills as well. I also hope that this means they will continue paying for my treatment. I canceled 2 appointments to see a Rhuematologist because I knew that it would be all tests and would cost at least $1500, and I was so afraid that the insurance wouldn't pay for it. It's sad when you're scared to go to the doctor because you can't afford to get healthy. So now I'm so happy. We can use the money to pay off the credit cards we put the medical bills on and what's left over we can put toward a down payment on a house. I am soo excited! We were worried having all these bills that we would not be able to buy a house for a another year or two. Now hopefully my eye keeps getting better and I can get off these meds and by this time next year we will have a house and be expecting our first child! :D
