Yesterday was fun. I went to the
Fort Sam Fiesta and Firework Extravaganza with my parents and Audrey and Amber. Everyone met up at my house since I live downtown and we all piled into Audrey's car so we wouldn't have to change the car seat out. When we got to Ft. Sam they were stopping every car and checking IDs. We all had our IDs but unfortunately Audrey's inspection sticker was expired so they wouldn't let us on post. So we drove back to my house, put the car seat in my parent's Yukon, which is my roomier I might add, and headed back to the post. It's a good thing I only live about 4 miles from the post. Sadly though we missed the ariel artists parachuting out of the sky. We got there as they were packing up. We did have a great time though. It's a free event and the beer and margaritas are actually cheap for a big time Fiesta event. We got a beer, 2 margs (made from wine, not tequila) and a smirnoff twist for $11! That's sweet.
There were a couple of stages set up. Amber was mimicking the pom pom and baton twirlers. Or should I say, she was upstaging them. She's so cute. I won a loooooong pixie stick and she was using it like a baton, twirling it and dancing all over the place. There was face painting and bouncing castles for the kids. I won (actually Amber did, I let her spin for me) 2 tickets to the
Missions baseball game on Thursday. We can't go because of darts though. I think I'll give them to my dad.
I ran into Suzanne and Chris while I was there. I hung out with them but just for a bit, didn't want to abandon my family. We laid blankets down in field and set up camping chairs to watch the fireworks later in the evening. My dad disappeared for an hour or so. It seems he ran to the grocery store and got fried chicken, beer, wine coolers and snacks. Since it was an open event you could bring your own food and whatnot. We have never gone to this event in the past so we didn't know you were allowed to bring your own stuff. We even saw someone with a little grill!
The fireworks were awesome. They lasted about 20minutes. Amber didn't like them though. The noise scared her badly, which is weird because she's not afraid of anything. She had never seen fireworks before. She ended up sitting in the truck with my mom and watching them out the window. I ended up sitting in the open hatch. It was a bit chilly and much warmer half inside the truck.
It was a great time. We're thinking about coming next year and making it a tradition.
Today is overcast and a bit cool. I think I'm going to ride my bike around downtown to see what free events are going on. The
Fiesta flower Show is going on. Flowers are always interesting to me, especially to photograph. Plus it's FREE! Also
Fiesta Fanatasies at Market Square and the
Fiesta Carnival begin today. The
Texas Cavalier's River Parade is tonight. Ed and I rode our bikes to it last year and watched from a bridge. We'll prolly do that again this evening. I can hear a lot of traffic on the highway already and it's barely noon. Ed is going to have a wonderful time trying to get home from work this week. Good thing our exit is the first one off the highway downtown and it's before all of the event areas. It's still going to suck. But that's what happens when you live downtown. You have to take the good with the bad. On the same token, we can ride our bikes to all the events and not pay for parking or worry about traffic jams inside of town.
I just talked to Ed. He has the key for the bike lock. So it looks like I won't be riding my bike today. I think I'll take Obi for a walk downtown. Aurra is doing good but she still needs to be with the pups.
I also just found out that my aunt Sharon is coming to visit this weekend. That's great. I haven't seen her since my wedding. Her daughter was my flower girl.
