So... the exceedingly good news: I was selected as one of 200 Truman finalists from across the country!! This means I get to go do an interview in Chicago, and if I impress the panel there, I will be picked as one of the 70-80 Truman Scholars for this year. Then the Truman Foundation will pay up to $30,000 for graduate school, my worries for getting into a top university will subside, and I can get awesome connections and internships at a government agency.
The bad news: My interview date falls on the precise time I will be leading my ASB trip to Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. And because the Truman Foundation has more than enough qualified applicants begging for interviews, they are being extremely inflexible with me and have no other dates available for me to come.
What does that mean for me then? Truman or ASB?
Alas, it seems that I will attempt to do both. The Honors College wants me to fly out from San Juan on Tuesday afternoon to arrive in Chicago Tuesday night, do my interview early Wednesday afternoon and then catch a flight to take me back by San Juan on Wednesday night. I will be gone a day and a half at best, and while ASB isn't thrilled I am leaving, they are forced to comply with me since there is no one else to fill my position in this short of time.
It's pretty much all kinds of suckiness, I suppose. At the same time, I am excited that there has been a miracle path formed, where I can actually be in Adjuntas and Chicago within the same week. I mean, it could be worse--what if I actually had to drop ASB or my Truman interview?
Still, this will prove more challenging than I expected...
