I like the Naomi theory. I of course like that Crowley could get in Kevins head like angels do. Overall, the worst writing team did okay with this and I can live with it.

I am just really into a show's universe continuity - and honestly- one retcon per episode is about all I can handle. This episode alone had at least a dozen (I'm actually feeling the need to start listing them all, lol but others have done it already!) Up until recent seasons, Supernatural was one of the best shows when it came to remembering and honoring the laws of their own universe and then...well now we have reapers that are visible to anybody and can be killed by an angel blade (when it was specifically stated only Death's scythe could kill them), and a million other things like that and I just ::dramatic sigh::
But! I will gladly accept the fan-theory floating around that says Sam's presence reshaped the part of Hell he entered and made it easy for him to navigate. Because that makes me happy in my boyKing!Sam places.
Yeh, the reaper thing confused the hell out of me. Mostly I was wondering what kind of supernatural creature a coyote was and how a reaper could be both. You're from NY too, had you heard that term before? I thought I knew POP culture, whatever.
I like the idea that hell is what you make it and that's why Sam easily found Bobby. It was like he sort of teleported to the right cell. Maybe Cas took a long time to find Dean so that Dean had enough time to break the seal. But then, Bobby should be all kinds of demon crazy by now.
Oh why didn't they just take two episodes to tell this properly and let Sam badass his way through hell. We will never see badass Sam again, but he lives on in memories and fanfic.
Now see, I thought it was Crowley who got Kevin in the end, for all the same reasons you stated, because I still believe they are going to retcon him as a fallen angel.
And it is always good to know that if I ever need to go to Hell to save in innocent soul, I shall find them in the third cell on the left, and shall not need a garrison of angels to go with me to fight my way in and out. What was Cas think when he went in after Dean?
The problem is that they won't do a sequence over more than one episode. It's a shame because Bobby's story got no respect or time for it to make sense. He would have been half demonic by then. Benny also had no story developed. It bugs me that they feel compelled to write the story complete in one episode when it is something that important.

This is the season of retcons, lol! It could definitely still happen.

I was totally wondering about the windows being intact when the bros arrived at the boat. I thought Crowley did somehow get in Kevin's head and made him bolt so he could find him...but your Naomi theory makes WAY more sense. It also explains why she was being overly nice and helpful. *side-eyes her* (She's still awesome though.)
I LOVED the trippy graffiti portal to purgatory!!! <3 And Benny! I missed him. Hmmm, you're the second person I know that has issues with his accent.
Yeah I have a hard time with certain accents sometimes - even when Jared and Jensen slip into their heavy Texan twang (which is adorable!) I actually rather like Benny's dialect too- just have a hard time parsing the words.
I agree with all your points, but you already knew that ; )
I just keep thinking of what a better writer would have done with this ep! Can't help it : (
Never give mytharc episodes to those two asshats- come on, Carver! And speaking of- you used to be one of my favorite writers- because of how you wrote Sam. Wth happened, dude?
! I just hope Sam isn't unconscious the whole derned ep. There's a difference between an episode being heavier in one brother than the other (such as this past one; it was kinda Sam's thing), but to knock him out totally? Blah.
No kidding! Now of course if we get to see something of Sam's headspace while Dean and Charlie are on a hunt, that I'd be happy about. For example, his take on what the trials are doing to him. That I'd love.

he sees Sam and Dean hundreds of times a day and all of them have black eyes (kind of like those awesome dreams I have).
LOL, you. You plan on writing fic based on these dreams, I hope? Just sayin' . . . *hopes*
