8x19 episode reaction
tonight you get thought-stew, because I haven't been sleeping enough and I spent all my linear-thinking brain-power on finishing my 8x14 AU fic
BOBBY!!!
So let me get my brief complaint out of the way first: this was very clearly a Eugenie and Brad episode and all I could think in the back of my head (on at least nine separate plot-hole/universe-law-redefining occasions) was : Edlund would have done it better. Dabb would have done it better. Gamble would have done it way better. Kripke would have done it way better.
So what did we have that I LOVED? a lot of little things, actually!
* BOBBY!! Punches Sam because he sees Sam and Dean hundreds of times a day and all of them have black eyes (kind of like those awesome dreams I have). Poor Bobby. Jim Beaver, I love you.
* The woman in the cell telling Sam she prayed for him for so long. I don't care what anybody says that was my boyKing!Sam reference and I love it.
*Benny, even though I can't understand you most of the time, you were adorable and sweet and self-sacrificing. Standing there with your neck still for Dean to cut it. Go you.
* The graffiti portal to Purgatory. Works for me- I liked the drawn door on the wall (it made me think of Beetlejuice)
*Naomi "don't call me a bureaucrat!" the Queen of Heaven!! I would totally work in your office - I'm a really fast typer, and I like your power suits- and you're just so deliciously EVIL. Also, I would persuade you to pursue more awesome hobbies like reinstating Sam as ruler of Hell. Come on- that hair is a mane- it screams King!
Here's the thing about Naomi (and here's where the post derails into speculative/interpretive theory territory)
She was the Crowley in Kevin's head, and she's the Crowley that abducted Kevin at the end.
Here's why:
* angels get into people's heads all the time.
* angels can make people see whatever they want
*we're told specifically that the boat wasn't warded against angels
* at the end- the windows shatter- which angels do with their voice
* afterwards, when the brothers show up- the windows are once again intact.
* Naomi needs a prophet and she wants the demon tablet as well. She gets Kevin, she gets both. Then when she finds Castiel (which she knows she will- she'll have the prophet ready to translate it)
And now for the inside joke nobody will get - UNLESS you are one of the 15 people that watched Sealab 2021 on Adult Swim
When Sam brought Bobby up via rapid-arm-transport (the only way to flyyyy), released him, and then immediately had the trial spell run through his other arm, my hubby yelled out "My arm! My other arm! That was my last arm!" which made me laugh very hard because of this.
