oh man. don't i love when random people who don't know anything about me or my mother's business bash us like there's no tomorrow. god, if they don't like the fucking shows, why do we even put them on? it doesn't help us at all, and every one who goes just complains all the time. so fuck that! honestly, i'm not doing the shows for me, do they think

Hey Monica... I happened upon your journal and I just want to make sure that you don't consider me to be one of the "bashers." While there are certainly some people out there who hate Olive's and will take any opportunity to insult it, you need to realize that there are also plenty of people who want to love Olive's, but just can't.

The main problem is that one minute you talk about how no one understands your situation and about how hard it is to run a bar... but then the next minute you seem to be agreeing with us and basically saying "I just need to convince my mom to agree with us too."

If that's the case, then I totally understand, but if you're going to try and tell us that $10 is a fair and justified price for a rock show, then we're just going to roll our eyes and dismiss it, because you know that it's not true.

Not to mention, we played a 21+ show last night where people still had to pay to get in... why? I thought the whole problem with all ages shows was that no one is gonna be drinking... but plenty of people would have been drinking at Olive's on the night after Thanksgiving if they didn't have to pay to get in, too.

Do you see what I mean? It's just frustrating for those of us who enjoy playing the room to see some of the decisions that are made which cause our shows to be under-attended and go against our ideals of what an independent rock show should be.

Sorry for posting a novel here, but I know you've misunderstood my intentions before (remember that crack I made about your e-mail list?) and I don't want you to think I'm a bad guy, and I want you to see where some of us are coming from.

haha, it's cool...i know what you mean. yeah, we charge a cover for the 21+ shows...but that's, again, how the bands get paid. it works on a different system than the all ages shows, so i am not going to get into it here. i do understand your frustration though.

whatever..the reason i don't want to be bashed is because i'm not booking the shows, i just happen to be involved in the scene, and at the same time, the daughter of a club-owner. so yes, i take it personally when people bash olive's. it's my family business..get it? it's not because i personally book the shows or anything (i used to but now i'm at school). whatever, most of these people don't even know what they're talking about.
