And then there was rain.

The heatwave is over. We've been swinging between maximum temperatures of mid to high thirties and minimum temperatures of mid to high twenties for the past few days. Stradbroke Island (just off the coast from Brisbane) was on fire for most of the weekend, and yesterday evening the smoke was so thick I couldn't see the city. When I went to bed, I could smell the smoke on the sheets.

Vile weather.

Today was hot, but finally it ended in storms. The sort of storms that caused localised flooding in the city, but nevertheless walking home at sunset with golden light filtering through clouds and gentle, cool rain falling was the most comfortable I'd been in days.

It's twenty-three degrees at nearly ten PM. The apparent temperature is stuck at twenty-eight, but in my room with its damp balcony, and its doors flung open to the dark, it feels cooler. It feels like I might sleep properly tonight. I hope so. This heat has been tiring.

Saw the Hobbit on Saturday, escaped to the air conditioning. I didn't like it as much as the first one, it felt like everything was just chugging along to get plot out of the way as fast as possible; no real character development or even interaction. Gratuitous elves didn't really bother me though, and I liked seeing Gandalf in action.

Saw Frozen too, and thought it was kind of neat. Holy blatant metaphor for female sexuality, Batman! I also liked the take-home message about trusting princes.
