The end of a busy week

So, the septic system repair is complete (pictures below under the cut). As mentioned, I’m very impressed with the work done and the folks who did the job: very professional. The total, including the first company’s ‘inspection’ and determination that the tank was failing, was ~$8.5K. It’s done, and it shouldn’t be troublesome again in my lifetime.

*sigh* Damn but home ownership has its high cost maintenance, expected and un! We did the roof in 2018, had to bring in town water in 2020 when our well failed, and finally paved the driveway last year. These projects obviously exceed my skill set, and when you need professional results you hire professionals. I say that because I hate having to pay others for anything I might be able to do on my own.

Anyway, last night, just to top off the week, the furnace wouldn’t start. Thankfully we have that decent 24/7 maintenance contract with Petro. The tech arrived at about 1:45 a.m. and finished by 3:00. He was efficient and knew just what had to be done, and was not happy with that as it was the hydrostat which had failed and ours was a long discontinued item; he had to wire in a different box and controller.

Those pretty, black, led lit items are the newest additions.

The hole. You can see the old cement tank on the left side.

Setting in the new plastic tank.

The tank in place. They filled around this with sand as the soil they removed was truly too boney.

This pipe connects the tank to the distribution box, which in turn connects to the leach tanks.

Done. The manhole covers are on the risers from the tank. I had cinder blocks over the covers on the cement tank because it lacked risers and I needed to know where the pump out hole was. And the ground was graded with loam and raked out nicely! I seeded this afterwards.

It’s coming…
