I'm not really a fan of the asari either, though for me it has less to do with sexism and more to do with the fact that Shepard (even a straight FemShep) auto-leers in response to any advances they make (AND OH GOD THEY ALL DO! GET OUT OF MY PERSONAL BUBBLE, BLUE SPACE LESBIAN).
a gender confused Asari
I will fully admit that, with having one gender, this wouldn't have ever occured to me. I might have thought a species-confused asari. But this idea really intrigues me and I can't wait to see how you do it. I'm eagerly awaiting that story. ♥
See, to me, it isn't so much a gender-blindness as a complete lack of an "other". We, as humans, can be gender-blind in our treatment of ourselves and others, but the "other" is still there (whichever the "other" may happen to be). Without a different option that one either identifies more closely with or has a condition along the lines of gender dysmorphic disorder, would gender confusion even be possible?
I'm not saying it isn't possible or that this idea is a bad one, just reasons why it never occured to me.
Why are all Asari bisexual and xenophilic? Surely some of them would've developed sexual preferences! Why is every inter-species Asari couple we see involve an Asari and a male alien? I can think of one instance when we've see a female NPC make out with an Asari, but all of the committed, child-bearing relationships have been with an Asari and a male alien. Don't alien women want to have children with their Asari bondmates?I AM COMPLETELY ON BOARD WITH THIS ENTIRE PARAGRAPH. The only

Liara's insistence that her people are completely gender-blind never sat right with me.
This... whole... paragraph... so much WIN! ♥ I haven't really put that much thought into it, TBH. I just feel, personally, that even if the Asari aren't hard-wired to question this as a general rule, there's always a black sheep. There's always an exception to every rule of human (or Asari or what have you) behavior. And I WANT to SEE IT.

They're not ALL. Some of them are Blue Power pureblood elitist snob bitches.
...yeah, I could go on all day. Mass Effect fails hard at gender representation. >:(
They do.
And while that may just be coincidence, MOST of it ties back to the Asari in some way. And that's why they're an outlet of my sexism hate. And man!Shep gets all the fangirls' blame? WTF? XD And I could spend most of a day bitching over it. I really could. But I try not to because I try not to make myself despise the galaxy too much 'cause I still want to enjoy it, yanno?
Those who leave Kahje tend to be adventurers. These solitary drell travelers often seek out new species elsewhere, and in turn adopt that species' culture. Such drell number in the thousands, and are scattered across the galaxy, tending towards quiet, integrated lives.
I can picture them living on an Asari world, Asari EVERYWHERE, and Daddy is the only BOY she knows... She's also one of the few mixed-breeds, so she feels compelled to BE MORE like Daddy... and... I CAN WORK THIS. ♥
GOD I KNOW I CAN'T EVEN DO IT YET. IT'S... No, I think it's 'cause my brain is locked on to her before she goes fully boy and she's still just confused, 'cause in my mind, that's the part of the story that needs the most attention first, but... ASARI. BRAIN SAYS GIRL AUTOMATICALLY. IMAGINE HOW MUCH WORSE IT'D BE FOR HER IN "REAL LIFE".
