"Live from Tonado Alley"

Mar 12, 2006 21:16

What a stormy day. The tornado sirens went off at 8:30 this morning (I was still peacefully asleep), and we all had to go down to the basement. Nothing came of it, though, as always. The sirens go off for our area at least 6 times a year and we troop downstairs at least 4 out of those. I've lived in Kansas my whole life. And I have never seen a tornado. Living right in the heart of Tornado Alley. Of course, that isn't to say that others around here have not been affected, but they are hardly ever close to the city. And there's actually a reason why, if you care to know: cities emit heat into the air above it and the change in temperature acts as a sheild against tornados, if you can believe it.

So I'm all tornado-ed out. Our weather alarm has been going off every ten minutes. I finally unplugged it durning Desperate Housewives (omg, Patricia, did you watch it?! It was a good one, and next week's looks good too!) so we could actually hear.

We had a family outing to the grocery store today. That was almost as exciting as the tornados.

On another note, I have a new favorite pasttime: spades on yahoo.com. Speaking of, it's calling me . . .
