This is turning out to be a monthly update. I wish it could be more frequently but things just aren’t working out that way for me. Anyway let me get you up to speed.
The Supernatural Con in Chicago: what a weird, exciting and frustrating time it was. In terms of traveling (the frustrating part) I tried to move around flights to get me to and from Chicago a little earlier. In the end, with delays, I gained about 2 hours which I deposited in the karmic bank as credit towards time spent watching Southland Tales. Seeing all the MDJ ladies was great.
jet_ssand I managed to catch some bug in LAX as we were journeying to Chicago. I’m just getting over it now. Glad I got that flu-shot the week before.
Since it was the first Supernatural con for Creation it was smaller, more manageable. The fans were respectful and very cool. There was one woman we called “Super Fan” who strutted around like she owned the joint. Every time she got up to ask a question she would step away from the mic so that only people immediately around her could hear her, as if it were an intimate conversation with the VIP. By the end of the weekend everyone knew her name, her story and her motives. That was the weird aspect of the weekend.
The excitement was the guests. “Ellen” and the “Yellow-eyed Demon” were stellar. We didn’t stay to hear Nicholas Brendon but I hear he wasn’t all that nice. The boys were gracious and charming, Jared especially. That guy knows how to work the crowd. He is completely at ease and so respectful to the fans. Jensen is most definitely not a morning person and all of their activities were scheduled first thing in the AM. But he soldiered on and was very funny. He came out to spend a few minutes with Jared on stage together wearing one of the con’s shirts dedicated to “Sam”. It was hysterical. “I think I’m going to wear this home on the plane!”
I did take video with Jet’s camera but there was literally the biggest head I’ve ever seen directly in front of me. In fact if it weren’t for the camera viewer I never would have seen the boys at all. Sadly it’s the worst video I’ve ever taken but hopefully I’ll be able to work some miracles with the footage and the 100’s of photos that Jet_ss and AngieB70 took. That’s my project for the New Year.
Speaking of photos, here are a choice here are a select few from the lense of
angieb70.
The Writer’s Strike did cancel Duran Duran’s appearance on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. We have strikers picketing across the street from our office at the one entrance gate to the studio lot. The strike itself doesn’t effect our department directly. We deal in distribution and acquisitions of finished projects to channels and to DVD distributors. But come this time next year we won’t have anything to license.
Movies I’ve reviewed:
Southland TalesThe Diving Bell and the Butterfly simply gorgeous, go see it!
The Golden Compass a good move, a disappointing adaptation of the book.
Strength and Honour I attended my first official press junket last weekend. I went and saw
National Treasure 2: The Book of Secrets Saturday night and then headed over to the Beverly Hills Hilton on Sunday for a press conference with Nick Cage and some small group sessions with Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jon Voight and the director Jon Turtletaub. I’m hoping to write up that stuff this week. My impression of the film (since I can’t do a review until next weekend): enjoyable, not as exciting or funny as the first but still a fun film to take the family to. Nick was lucid and looking good, Diane is charming and gorgeous, I’m in love with Justin Bartha and Jon Turtletaub and Jerry Bruckheimer is just the luckiest SOB in Hollywood.
This weekend I have good friends T and Kim staying with me. We’ve got a full itinerary: lunch in the LB with G-Money, a screening of Enchanted at the El Cap then tacos and margaritas at The Velvet Margarita afterwards with
etherealtband Laura, a special event on Sunday that may involve my attending the PS I Love You Premiere after party, we’ll see, and we’re seeing a screening of Sweeney Todd on Monday night (which I will be reviewing).
Next weekend Mum and Dad are here for the Hollywood Master Chorale’s holiday concert. We’ll be having a family open house at my apartment the day before. I’m hoping I can get people to help trim my tree. I figure if you ply them with snacks and wine you can pretty much get people to do anything.
So that’s it for now. Have a great weekend everyone. Good luck with your holiday shopping!
