As my friend
kimmyzee would say “Holy Crow!” It’s been way too long since I updated. Don’t think it’s from lack of activity. It’s been another busy month at Casa del Mo and in the middle of it I had myself a little birthday. Not little really….well next year is the big depressing year but I’m not going down without a fight, or a party!

I'm using TONS of LJ Cuts.

  1. Michael Clayton: I was most impressed with George Clooney’s performance and of course Tom Wilkinson steals the show as usual.
  2. Elizabeth: The Golden Age: a pale comparison to the first one which was disappointing to me.
  3. Gone Baby Gone: the Affleck boys where on-hand to do a Q&A afterwards. Watching them was rather like watching my youngest brother and I interact. In a million years I never would have equated myself with Ben Affleck! The film is excellent. Kudos to Ben for stepping back and letting the story and performances speak for themselves. And I think I’m all turned around on this whole Casey Affleck thing. He’s downright zexy in this.
  4. Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten: a doc about the front-man for the Clash. It had some interesting bits but didn’t really ask any hard questions and tends towards pretension with appearances of some Hollywood A-Listers.
  5. Eastern Promises: once again Viggo is da sh*t. Check it out as soon as you can.
  6. American Gangster: I really liked this film. It’s not Serpico or Good Fellas by a long shot but it is good pop cinema. Having just watched Zodiac the night before I was inundated with 70’s fashion and culture that weekend. Far out man.
  7. Southland Tales: DO NOT WASTE YOUR VALUABLE TIME AND MONEY ON THIS. A full review is forthcoming.
  8. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly: heartbreakingly gorgeous story about a paralyzed man dictating his autobiography using only his one eye.
  9. Deficit: Gael Garcia Bernal’s directorial debut. This was screened as part of the AFI Film Fest and in particular their Latino Filmmaker Series. Co-Producer Diego Luna was there *sigh* and he looked yummy from what I could see from the back row. The film addresses the constant class struggle in Mexico thoughtfully and respectfully. Well done to the boys.

As part of the AFI fest I was also supposed to see Margot at the Wedding and Cyrano Fernandez (tasty Edgar Ramirez) but stupidly forgot that I was going to be out of town and ended up giving the tix to my bro.

Upcoming films:
  1. Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium
  2. Strength and Honor: it's got Richard Chamberlin in it....I HAVE to see it.
I can’t recommend Goldstar tickets to people more highly. Through them I got to see the guys from Spinal Tap perform at that charity event, Avenue Q for half price and now I’m seeing The History Boys on the 15th and a new production called Atlanta on the 20th. And speaking of tickets I got tickets to see Duran Duran perform on Jimmy Kimmel on the 19th. The tix were free and the band should play like 5 songs (they air two). Seeing how expensive the actual concert tickets have been for Duran’s new tour I have a feeling this is the only way I’m going to see them and not have to sell my car.

daisybuttercup and I started watching the first season of Dead Like Me after being told time and again how good it is. Sadly the first disc only contained the Pilot which was intriguing enough to impatiently want the second disc. I’m loving Callum Blue. It’s probably him that I want to see more of.

The other series we’ve been watching is Wonder Falls. It takes place as a souvenir stand in Niagara Falls. When it was airing Darla would tell me how much she loved it. Gersh had a couple clients on the show, including the lead Caroline Dhavernas. It’s by the same series creator as Pushing Daises and it has that same quirky dialogue and situations. Add the fact that Lee Pace plays the lead’s brother and well we watched 8 episodes Saturday night. Thank God for the time change. We just have 4 episodes left. *sigh* Fun fact, all the exterior shots of the store were shot on the Canadian side of the Falls. I know the location very well.

The season premiere of Nip/Tuck had me howling. Bradley Cooper is hysterical as the egomaniac actor the docs are brought in to educate. I can’t wait to see his future episodes. And a couple times I caught Julian’s Aussie accent bleeding through. That aside I’m very excited to see where this season goes.

The Hollywood Master Chorale did its annual retreat in Idyllwild, CA on October 20th. This time around the soprano clique rented a cabin to stay in. We found one that is a geodesic dome (that geeked out Wendy) with a hot tub (that sold Kysa and me). We had a fantastic time in the dome. Check out the pictures:

Behold the monstrous creation that is my pumpkin! This was the closest I’ve ever gotten to the actual pattern. His hair wasn’t perfect, but it was damn close.

Towards the end I was making fatal cuts left and right and swearing up a storm. Good thing all the children had left at that point.

I had to include a picture of the adorable Ms Payden as Piglet. Her mom wore a coordinating Pooh costume but I will spare her the embarrassment of posting it here.

I’m heading to Chicago this weekend with

angieb70,
ecampos,

mzbehavin65,
racefanand
gracieandbuddy for a Creation “Money grubbing bastards” Con for Supernatural. All together we should have a group of 9 running around Schaumburg, IL for a couple days. Both the Winchester boys are scheduled to be there Sunday so start collecting bail money now.

I think that’s enough for now. Have a great week everyone!
