Chapter 1

*~*~*~*~*~*

Maybe it was just pure luck. Or maybe it was the goddess of fate that finally smiled at him. Either way, today seemed to be a good day, because Tegoshi was assigned to help one of the stylists at a photo shoot today. It was one of the things that he actually enjoyed doing at his work, it was far more interesting than making coffee or copying various papers for the higher-ups. All he was allowed to do was basically to carry clothes and if he was really lucky even help to style the models, but even though that was all, he liked it. Today was basically the same, He carried a huge bunch with clothes in his arms and walked behind the stylist named Koyama. Tegoshi liked Koyama, he was cheerful and talkative, and was one of the persons working in the company that actually was nice to him. He appreciated that, really.

Tegoshi put the clothes he had carried down when they entered the dressing room, scanning the room, hoping to find Masuda in the bunch of models. He eventually found him, surrounded by girls who seemed quite flirty, fluttering their eyelashes and giggling. For some reason it bothered Tegoshi, maybe he was just jealous on this guy who seemed to have all he could wish for. While he himself had nothing. He didn’t know if that was the case, but it sure felt like that.

Just as usual, Tegoshi wasn’t needed after a while and just had to sit and watch while the photographs were taking their photos. He used to look at the different models and rank them, choose which he liked most and which he liked least. Today, his eyes were stuck on Masuda for some reason. Tegoshi was sure he liked Masuda, he wasn’t like all the other models working for the company, vainglorious and condescending. He seemed really nice, at least as far as Tegoshi could judge by what he had seen of him. Yamashita had been different too, even though he had been a model he had been caring and kind, not looking down on anyone. Not even at Tegoshi. The thought made Tegoshi’s heart crack, the memories were still too fresh, the wound still hadn’t healed the slightest. He didn’t want to think about it, and decided to concentrate on Masuda’s face instead, just to avoid a second breakdown. He had cried enough last night for what felt like the rest of his life.

Tegoshi ate his lunch with Shige as usual, the point that lighted the day up, if only just a little. Shige seemed brighter than usual today, and Tegoshi could figure the reason, and it sort of broke his heart a little. “You had a nice date yesterday?”

Shige looked up, smiling widely. “Indeed, indeed.”

Tegoshi smiled back, tried to convince Shige that he was happy for his sake even though only parts of him were. Shige suddenly smirked at him. “Hey, Koyama told me that there was some new model that you’re sort of interested in.”

Tegoshi raised an eyebrow. “Interested is the wrong word, I don’t even know him. And besides, I’m sick and tired of love, I don’t have any intention of falling for someone again anytime soon.”

Shige eyed him with a sort of worried expression. “You’re still upset aren’t you? About Yamashita I mean.”

Well, obviously, why wouldn’t I be? Tegoshi smiled, tried make it trustworthy, but he knew that he failed. “I’m fine.”

Shige touched his shoulder lightly, something Tegoshi actually needed. He needed another persons closeness, needed someone who would hold him. “I told you to talk to me, didn’t I?”

Tegoshi bit his lip. Shige tried to help him, tried to be by his side, wanted to comfort him when he needed it. But Tegoshi wasn’t ready to open up, wasn’t ready to share his emotions and thoughts with another person. He put on that smile again and looked up at Shige. “It’s fine, I told you I’ll get over him.”

Shige eyed his sceptically. “You just keep things inside, don’t you?” Tegoshi didn’t answer. “But anyway, Yamashita maybe weren’t interested in you, but someone else seems to be.”

Tegoshi looked up at him. “What do you mean?” Shige nodded towards the end of the table, where Masuda stood, eying Tegoshi, smiling when their gazes met. Shige smirked. “He looks at you. I bet he’s interested in you.”

Tegoshi gave Shige a death-glare. “Sometime’s you say thing that are really hilarious, Shige.” The sarcasm was obvious, but Shige just laughed lightly and rose to walk away. “Enjoy yourself.”

Tegoshi opened his mouth to make a rebuttal, but Masuda stood by his side now, smiling at him. Shige just winked at him and then left with a huge smirk on his lips.

“Can I sit here?”

Tegoshi looked up at him, nodding. Masuda smiled and put his plate before taking the seat beside Tegoshi. “It’s really great I found you here, it would be boring to eat alone on my first day here.”

Tegoshi laughed lightly, to his own surprise genuinely. “I’m sure there are plenty of other persons you could’ve eaten with.”

Masuda smiled. “I want to eat in peace, and if you’re referring to the girls from this morning they wouldn’t very likely give me peace.”

Tegoshi laughed, just because Masuda surely was right about that. He was glad Masuda preferred him before all the other people who would have wanted his company. He didn’t know at all what kind of person Masuda was, but it still made him happy. His happiness drained quickly when he saw one of his work-mates walking towards their table, smiling at Masuda. “Hey, why are you sitting here, Masuda-san? You can come and sit with us instead.”

Masuda smiled politely, but to Tegoshi’s surprise he refused the offer. “Thank you for the offer, but I’m fine here.”

The other man looked quite unpleased and leaned forward, lowering his voice. “I would avoid Tegoshi if I were you, he is nothing. It would be better if you came and ate with us instead, we’re at least not worthless workforces.”

Even though the man had lowered his voice, Tegoshi could clearly hear the words he said. He wasn’t surprised at all about them, but it still hurt to hear them. It hurt because Masuda had heard them and would probably turn his back towards Tegoshi now.

Masuda just smiled, still politely and shook his head. “As I told you, I’m quite satisfied where I am now. And I don’t think you should say things like that about another person, especially not when they’re hearing it.”

The man just nodded and walked away, facial expression quite displeased and unsatisfied. Tegoshi just stared at Masuda when he turned around. “Why…did you do that?”

Masuda smiled. “I don’t want to consort with people who behave like that. It’s bad manners to say such a bad thing about you, I don’t like people who talks like that about another person without knowing anything.”

Tegoshi nodded, a smile finding its way to his lips. “Thanks.”

Masuda shook his head and then suddenly started to laugh. “By the way, what’s your name? I haven’t asked that yet.”

Tegoshi smiled. “Tegoshi Yuya.”

Masuda nodded. “Tegoshi. It’s a good name.”

Tegoshi laughed lightly. Masuda suddenly looked at him. “You seem quite lonely, and you’re fighting all alone towards these mean persons. Can’t we be friends?”

Tegoshi laughed lightly, because it sounded so innocent, so weird. But he liked the first impression he had got of Masuda, and didn’t see any reason to not be friends with him. “Yeah, why not?”

Masuda smiled widely. “I was so worried that I would hate this place, but it feels much better now. I’m glad I met you.”

I’m glad I met you. It was the first time someone had said these words to him, and it moved him a bit. It was actually more than enough to make him decide that meeting Masuda was a good thing too. He still sort of wondered why he had accepted such an offer, he used to be so closed and introverted, and always sceptical towards people he didn’t know. But Masuda was a light and bright person that made him smile, and had been glad to meet him. For now that was reason enough.

This is a short and boring chap, I thought it was better to post this than posting nothing at all, and it’s already been delayed. School is still keeping me really occupied, but the holiday is coming up with a one-week break, hopefully I’ll be able to post more often then^^

I hope you’ll forgive me for the failing chap >___<
