Not really anything new, just rambling to myself

Lately I've been kind of self-conscious about my own art, and the subject matter of my art. I don't really meet a lot of people who draw the same kinds of things I do as often or as consistently as a theme. I think I finally figured out what it REALLY is about the things I draw that I like.

And by "things I draw", I basically mean "Cartoon monsters and animals." Little creatures, Pokemon, small animals, etc etc.

Really, I think, it's the proportions. I've really NEVER enjoyed drawing things with "human" proportions, and if I do, their heads are always a bit too big. It all comes down to the cute, short, big-headed proportions. Which generally, things that fall into that category are cartoon animals, cartoon monsters, and whatever else little creatures or mascots exist.

Just look at the head-to-body ratio on all of my fave things out of these! Hamtaro, Pokemon, almost anything in the Mario series, Digimon, Dragon Quest monsters, cartoon animals, anything else, and even the only human characters I've ever really gotten into drawing.

They all have have similar proportions and round shapes, irregardless of whether they're human or animals or weird other-worldy creatures. Sure there are exceptions, and I find the human figure quite attractive a lot of the time! And I want to practice and get better at it. But really the thing I ENJOY drawing the most is things with those proportions. I guess it's been that way all my life, I've always like to draw cute cartoon thingy-mabobs, animals, whatever creatures I'd come up with, and whatever humans too, all no more than like, 3 1/2 heads high.

So I guess some people might find it odd that I don't do fanart of human characters very often, but it's just because most of them aren't really the right proportions I like to draw. And when I DO draw them, I tend to change them anyway. Lately I've been trying to break out of it, but for anything fun, always "chibi"-like. I like drawing humans/humanoids like this, but not like this. I like drawing cartoon animal people like this, but not like this. I like drawing monsters like this, but not like this. It's not that I don't like humans or am somehow only attracted to non-human things, it's just that they're more interesting to me in art.

Sometimes I worry people will think I'm weird for it or something, my galleries mostly filled with child-like, big-headed creatures. Or barely any humans. But I dunno. It just so happens I like cute things, and many human characters just don't happen to have the right proportions I like to draw.

I guess there are many reasons I prefer to draw things with smaller proportions. For one thing, and I guess the obvious thing, is the cute factor. I like things to be cute, just how I am, not too much to say on that. For another, I find things easier and more fun to pose.

(excuse the bad touch-pad drawings) An average fun pose I like to make for cartoon animals. Cute and curvy, jumpy pose. When I try the same pose with a more human-shaped form, the angles that make up the pose are more clear, and the figure is a lot more closely "wrapped" around the skeleton that makes it up. Now angles can be find too, but I just don't find them quite as interesting or fun. I could also very well put a smaller head on the first red-line "frame", and build a more human-proportioned body off of it, but the curves on the long, thinner limbs tend to look very out-of-place, and definitely a bit TOO curvy/silly.
Posing is something I love to do and whenever I think of a new, adorable pose, I will really want to draw it and it makes me happy to draw. The same pose added to a human figure is usually pretty boring to me (even though some can be cool, it's rarer). I also like how big the other body parts are in proportion to the head.
I've drawn a lot of human-sized people before, but I feel like the poses are way too stiff, no matter what I do.

I really want to practice and find a way to make drawing human bodies fun. Sometimes playing up the angular-ness of them can be fun and interesting, but I find playing with poses much more fun when they're small and chibi-fied. I practice anatomy on my own free will, but only really so I can get better at drawing cartoons and super-deformed creatures. I guess one day I might find the solution if I want to be a real artist who draws ~*~*pretty human figures*~*~ like everyone else does. v(9A9)v

idk, tl;dr, arts, momo's a freak
