All things considered, not entirely my best A-kon and complicated by lots of outside factors. I *have* to push Paul to get his driver's license -- another driver would have been so useful this weekend. Because I had to take the boys to a party, I got to A-kon just as the art show and the dealer's room was closing. Everyone was packing up or loading up or just generally milling around.
The good:
I got to show my portfolio to a Texas-based publisher that's looking to branch out into the game industry. He took my card and would be interested in seeing my online portfolio. (Guess I'd better get on with that.)
I sold five pics in the art show. I would have happy even if I hadn't sold a thing because this morning one of my pics was a Daily Deviation -- my first one.
Wacom had a booth this year and I got to play on a 21" Cintiq. So freakin' cool.... *sighs* ... but way too pricey.
I met up with
shinga and
spotweld but only once each.
A-kon set a Guiness Book record with the most number of cosplayers dressed as video game characters -- Saturday there were 700 of them.
The bad:
The Copic vendors and the Cool Tools demo guys were a complete no-show. So disappointing!
I couldn't find a panel that interested me so I spent most of my time browsing the Dealer's Room and the Artist's Alley. (Speaking of which, I went looking for various Dev Artists who said that they would be there but I could never find them. I think people should mark their tables with their online handles so it's easier to meet up with people.) On Saturday, I abandoned the con completely and walked over to the arts district to see the Crowe Collection. The current exhibit is art from India -- more sensuous and organic than the Japanese art that had been there previously.
Still, I did sell some art and now I can sort out my stuff to send to the Gathering. That should be in the mail by Wed. if I'm lucky and then I can focus on writing and doing some better art for the fall cons.
