My brief stay in Vegas

Mar 28, 2008 10:38

I seem to keep forgetting that I was in Vegas for a short time. I went a few days before St. Patrick's Day. It was so whirlwind. I was there from Friday at 2am to about noon on Saturday. Yep so short.

My friend from UCD, IC, picked me up late Thursday night. She had just gotten her friend, KL, from the airport, so we got to know each other in the car. KL is like so sweet and nice. She is the type of person I'd probably be friends with if ya know we lived any where near each other. We met up with another friend from UCD, IDP,in Vegas at Planet Hollywood, which I must say is an uber-comfy hotel. We got an ADA retrofitted room and the bathroom was huge and ya know how well that works when girls are getting ready in the morning.

The other girls were so ready to go out to an after hours club but I was just too tired. They all got ready and left the room at 3:45am. The next morning I heard about their incredibly funny but short time out on the town. They learned from the cabbie that the after hours club they wanted to go to was closed (I think it had shorter hours on the weeknights), so the cabbie recommended they go this gentleman's club that turned into an after hours club in the early morning hours. They really thought it over on the ride there but when they saw what really just appeared to be a gentleman's club with only men there they skeedadled on back to the hotel. Outside the hotel this scantily clad woman, who was so clearly a prostitute with an older drunk man I just need not even describe it, asked my friends if they were "working." Two of the ladies caught on immediately to what that meant but the other one was unclear as to her meaning. She then asked them twice if they were "vice." None of my friends knew what that meant. In the morning I explained that it's cops who arrest prostitutes and such. At first they were a little insulted about this woman's belief that they looked like prostitutes (mind you they were all wearing jeans, not even short skirts or anything like that) and were a little happier to learn that this woman thought that she might get busted by them.

In the morning IDP and I hung out and walked along the strip looking for buffets at the request of our friend while the other ladies rested up. It was such a nice day out and I just loved walking around on The Strip with her. We then all went out to eat at that restraunt outside the Paris hotel that overlooks the Belagio. It had really good food and it was nowhere near as expensive as I thought it would be. Then we went on another walk on the side of The Strip. This time I brought more appropriate shoes than the first walk so my feet were a little happier with me. We went along the mall that's connected to Planet Hollywood, which we often called PH because the acronym is everywhere in that hotel, to find something to eat quickly for dinner. Then we all got ready to go to the clubs. IDP had called a few clubs to make reservations and while we were walking we got cards to go to some of the clubs for free. Free is nice when the cover is $20 a person at most of the bigger clubs there.

The first club we went to was Tao at the Venetian. It had quite a few rooms and dance floors with different kinds of music which really appealed to me. It was very crowded though and my friends said they were turned off by women who were wearing flower style bathing suits by the door. For some reason this did not bother me as much as it did them. I guess I get into this more shock proof mode when I am in Vegas so that very little surprises me while I am there. After being there for an hour or so we decided to head on over to another club.

The second club, and final club, we went to was Pure at Caesar's. It was crowded but not as crowded as Tao so I think that is why we ended up staying...and the fact that we met some nice guys who ended up buying us drinks who some of my friends thought were really cute. They also had Australian accents so that tends to up their appealing factor for most women. By this time one of my friends is pretty darn drunk to the point where the Aussies refuse to give her more to drink, which I thought was really nice of them. She goes off dancing on the dance floor and we all do the same. She danced with a guy for quite awhile whom she said she liked but he was wearing a T-shirt in a club that has a dress code and seemed to be very handsy so I was not a fan of him. Two of us went off to the bathroom and when we came back the other ladies were no where to be found. After about an half hour of searching for them (none of them had room keys or cell phones so it really was a must that we find them) we found them on the roof of the club in the VIP section with some other guy. This where I become in the total mommy role and ugh I just hate being a mommy on my fun vacations with friends. I have to keep holding my drunk friend up who got upset at me for holding her so I would occasionally let her go and then she would almost fall over so she had to be held up again. I finally decide that she just needs to sit down so I have her sit next to one of our friends near the guy who got us into the VIP area. A huge guy (I mean at least 250 if not 300 lbs) becomes upset at me then because he had been signaling for her to sit next to him. I am little scared, annoyed, and cold at this point but I try not to show it by continuing to assert to him that I just wanted my friend to sit next to our other friend so she would look out for her and noting that we do not even know him but we know our friend. After about 5 minutes he gives up and I almost scream over the frustration I am feeling at that moment. Instead a guy in a wheel chair starts talking to us and he makes us laugh and introduces us to his girlfriend, so he saved me from screaming thankfully. We decide it is time to get going and about 3 guys try to break our drunk friend off from the group, so not cool guys. One of them even tried to do this in the line to get a cab to our place. My goodness, they were out to take advantage of her. Then of course we get in the car and my drunk friend somehow slips into the front seat and begins a long albeit funny conversation with our part-time male stripper and cabbie.

In the morning my not drunk friend and I get up and get a snack together. The other ladies get up shortly after we do and are ready to leave the room when we get back. We drop off our stuff at the car and the other ladies get breakfast while we gamble. I came out of it a whole dollar ahead, as in I put in $20 and got out $21 at the end. Oh I am a big winner, aren't I? *lol* We then meet up with the ladies except we are one lady short as the one who was not that visibly drunk last night had to throw up this morning. I felt bad for her. We walked on over to the pool and hung out there for a bit before we were on the road again.

The road trip was full of weather changes. It was pretty warm in Vegas. Then we went over this mountain area about 4,250 feet up and we were in snow that actually stuck to the ground and our car for about 10 minutes. That was a great surprise. :) It felt all magical. I love a little bit of snow. After that about 40 miles away from my place it just started raining and hard. It was still raining when we got to my place. Then about 20 minutes after they left the rain was over and it was sunny out again. Ah what a crazy trip. :)
