Isn't it amazing what can happen when you just relax?
This weekend has been really fun. I have just put together things to do, trying to call friends who are in town right now, and doing things to restore my energy and recharge. When I called three friends and didn't hear from any of them about hanging out, I didn't stress about it. I knew I had a rough plan of things to do, with a good balance of working and hanging out already in the works. Here's what's happened so far:
Yesterday morning I went to the chiropractor and got a massage. It was awful. The chiropractic work didn't make me sore (I don't think), but the massage therapist has nearly caused my body to break in half. I think she was barely rubbing my lower back and leg muscles, but since last night, I've been extraordinarily sore. During the massage, I was wincing in pain even though she wasn't going very deep. I'm pretty injured back there, and I can't exactly put a finger on why. The chiropractor thinks that I'm sitting in my car in a way that's puttting my body out of whack, or that I'm just plain driving too much. It's a little hard for me to change that, given my summer jobs right now and how much I love to drive.
In the afternoon I cared for four-month old Owen for four hours while his parents did work and unpacked boxes in their new house. He gave us a run for our money with the "poop wave," as his mom calls it. Ask me if you'd like me to explain what this is; it's a little gross and a little humorous, as you might expect. I came home exhausted. Caring for babies is a labor of love, that's for sure.
Last night I went with Mom and Catherine to Janna's dad's 60th birthday party in St. Paul. I got to see some of Janna's family friends who I haven't seen since last summer and some I hadn't seen since the fall of 2005. I talked at great length with some of Janna's honorary mothers, who have become close to both of us over the years. The hours went by like minutes and every one of them was amazing. I was a bit hurt a few times by some things that happened, including a conversation with Janna before the party and one I overheard while I was at the party, but overall it's been a great weekend so far.
This afternoon I'm going with my mom to my grandparents' house.
