Louisiana Trip, Part 4

Today we went to Natchitoches (which I still can't pronounce correctly). We went to Fort St. John Baptiste. It was a recreation of an actually fort that was around many, many years ago. There were two men who told us about the different buildings and what was in each one. For lunch we went to Lasyone's, which is famous for it's meat pies. I had a meat pie platter that consisted of a meat pie, dirty rice, and a vegetable. The meat pie was pretty good, but it seemed like it needed something besides just meat in it. For dessert we had this delicious pie/cake combination thing. After lunch we found one of the houses from Steel Magnolias. It's the one that was used as where Shelby's parents lived. I took a quick picture then we headed off to the alligator farm. Those were some huge alligators we saw. We even got to hold one (well, some of us where too chicken; not me, of course). There was also a feeding show where we got to see the gators duke it out for the chicken. We feed the goats too. Those goats sure are greedy animals. The little baby ones were adorable as was the rabbit. The poor rabbit had a hard time getting any food because of the goats. He stood up on his bag legs and has his front paws held up like he was begging. Tonight was our special gumbo dinner. Graeme and Linzy arrived today from Scotland and they came over with Dee. The gumbo was very good. I did like they do in Louisiana and put some potato (aka tater) salad in it. I've never heard of doing it like this before, but it was pretty good. I just hope that my stomach doesn't get upset. It wouldn't be pleasant being sick after eating that. Tommorrow we are going to the Big Easy (aka New Orleans). This will be my first time being in the city since Katrina. It's going to be interesting to see it. I'm also looking forward to having a drink on Bourbon Street. Woo-hoo!

I've got to get going. Rachel is inflating the mattresses. It's going to be a very early rise in the morning. Ahhh!
