To be honest, I'm very confused with SI. I think in order to fully follow everything that's happening one needs to have been following all of the events that have taken place in the MU for the past few (four? five? more?) years. I haven't. Sure, I've read some of the issues that interested me such as Civil War and WWH, but I haven't gotten to some events such as House of M or Galactic Storm yet. So I'm just going with the flow and not making a great effort to keep all of the twists straight in my head. I mean, I had just read about Jessica Drew's backstory as presented in the early chapters of NA only to now have it be completely twisted around. I guess that was to be expected though.
Also, when a story's chronology is presented as mixed-up or constantly going back and forth, I also loose track if I don't pay enough attention. I'm a very linear person and I don't quite like bouncing from time period to time period. But that's only a minor pet peeve. I just wish there would be more action taking place in the present instead of having to retell every character's back story with this new twist to it. The SI plot is dragging, though I guess re-telling the past is pretty essential for the present plot...
I thought that I had convinced myself to not believe that the Cap from the Skrull ship that landed in the Savage Lnad is the real Cap while the one who was killed was merely a Skrull. I mean, sure, when the presumed Cap-Skrull died, it didn't revert back to its original Skrull form. But I was sure that Marvel-logic could somehow explain that one....
But thinking back on it, when Mockingbird adamantly insists that the Cap from the ship is the genuine Cap because he was the one who got them back to earth, I couldn't help but be affected by how persuaded she was. Yes, I am an idiot.
First of all, the one thing I should know about SI by now is that, as a reader, I can't trust anything that a character-not-already-proven-to-be-a-skrull has to say (and some of the things that the Skrullified-characters have said*). I mean, if I can't trust Jarvis, then I can't trust anyone. At least they haven't (that I'm aware) gotten Aunt May yet...
(I'm also pretty sure, based on NA # 42 that Tony Stark, Maria Hill haven't been Skrullified yet and, based on MA # 15 that Janet hasn't either). Therefore, Mockingbird could be a skrull...
And the fact that the Invasion seems to hinge on Cap's ship's arrival to earth makes me suspicious. However, the Skrulls have proven that they are very good at forecasting future events and manipulating people to bend their courses of action to suit the Skrulls' needs.
Actually, despite all this, I think I'm still convinced that the Skrull-ship Cap is the real deal. And no, that I'm embracing what can only be a fool's hope does not bug me at all.
*Jessica Drew's confrontation with Tony Stark in the Savage Land, for instance because I think its been good as revealed that he's not a skrull...though its very possible that I could have missed something.
