Time Stamp II and raving

Oh, holy shit.

I just spent this past week marathoning the shit out of King Falls am. I haven't marathoner so hard since that time I lost a day in med school marathoning Supernatural (thankfully, my tastes have improved drastically since then...). I barely did anything this week. God, I haven't been so immersed in a fictional world in a long damn time.

I knew there would be angst going into it (hell, it's the reason I started listening to it) and I was a bit put off that it took longer than the 10-ish or so episodes to really get to it as most podcasts usually get there by then. But, ho boy, did it start to deliver. Episode 68? Everything I ever wanted. And I think it's the reason I didn't marathon Wolf 359 so hard; I knew that there were awesome developments around episode 60-ish so I just mainlined it until then. Now I guess I need to go back and absorb it more slowly. And to give my professional like time to make a comeback...

I guess my one frustration with the podcast is the radio format, which is the same issue I had with WtNV. It's really entertaining, but by necessity, those behind-the-scenes private moments don't exist (except when they don't know that they're on air...). But this is where fic comes into play. I mostly avoided AO3--actually, that's a lie. I did stop by briefly, but avoided any Jack-heavy fics. But what I did see made me thing that...they have found Jack? Like, I'm surprised by how recent the Sammy-is-gay and Jack-centric story lines are based on what I saw on AO3 (also, why the fuck are there only about 300 fics? It's a travesty...).

I think the stepping away from the "radio broadcast as a podfic" format was one of the reasons that I really, really like Wolf 359; seeing how the characters truly interact with each other is half the fun.

BUT, that's not to say that KFAM didn't hit so many of my story-kinks. It also accomplished the make-me-like-a-character-I-wasn't-expected in Ben Arnold. Nice achievement. Also, the Glory Holes thing? I honestly couldn't keep a straight face during clinic most of that afternoon. One of the funniest things I've heard in a while. I am probably going to adopt "garbage bears," "nope ropes/danger noodles," and "wall crabs" into my own vocabulary.

Now that I'm all caught up, it's time for me to finally hit up TV tropes and A03. I've noticed that, as I've gotten older, I'm a bit more cautious against spoilers? I used to love them; after all, it's nice to see how things build up to an expected outcome (but, you can also get that on rewatches/relistens, which I love to do in general, so...). I kind of wish I didn't know about Jack being Sammy's fiance. While it was cool to know ahead of time at the first mention of Jack that he is a significant character, I wonder how much more I would have enjoyed the Sammy-coming-out had I know known to expect it...I can see myself in the future limited what I know of podcasts. Not that I expect to move on from this one anytime soon.

One neat spoiler, however, was a throw-away line on TV tropes (I did go onto that site, but kept the spoilers blocked) or on Tumblr or somewhere mentioning that most characters are interesting, except for Greg Frickard who is the absolute worst without any redeeming qualities. I read this rather early on when he just had what I thought was a minor crush on Emily and thought it was a tongue-in-cheek fan over-reaction.

Ha.

Nope. He really is despicable.

Anyway, since the podcast is ongoing, I have two predictions that future-me may get a kick out of. I think The Dark is Pete Myers (I had played with the idea of it being Greg, but that was averted recently) and I think that the hiker that was found with the dead body is Jack.

Wow. I suspect that's enough for now. Also...I still have that W359 WIP that'll need some more love at some point to prove to myself that I can finish a project that I have started.
