Soooo glad it's springlike outside, finally. I think we may actually take the plastic off of our windows today - a big step, to be sure (and practically guaranteeing another blizzard - sorry, guys).
Well.
Last weekend we were in Madison for Paul's cousin's wedding. It was a fun, but very exhausting, time! I really wish we would have had time to hang out with our Madison pals, but it just didn't work out - lots and lots of family events, all of which lasted longer than we anticipated. Oh, well.
It was an interesting experience going to a wedding this close to our own. Admittedly, I was a little worried about the comparison factor, since their wedding was at a big church and the reception was at a big country club. And ours, well, isn't. But after the weekend, I felt lots better about that aspect, since I know our wedding is going to be very "uS" and their wedding was very "them" - one isn't better than the other, at all, and different doesn't equal better/worse.
We also visited the jewelry store while were in Madison, and dropped off my engagement ring so they could make a wax model of it, which is necessary for them to make the matching wedding band. It was surprisingly hard to leave my ring behind! It really feels strange to not have that weight on my finger. Luckily, Paul bought me a gorgeous, huge purple ring from a vending machine at Perkins, so crisis averted.
We also found a suit for Paul - Calvin Klein, at a very reasonable price, from a store just down the block from the jewelry store. We'll most likely be making a trip to Madison again next weekend to pick up my ring and have him try on the suit to get the tailoring stuff taken care of. Everything is going to move so quickly from now until the wedding - insanity.
We've already been to two Cubs games, both of which we won (yahoo!). My boy Derrek Lee is doing amazing this season! Our seats for the nine games we have tickets to this season are unfortunately at the top of Wrigley (literally - the very top row), which makes for a very windy/cold experience, but hey - I'll take 'em. I picked up a great Wrigley hoodie to combat the elements.
From here on out, I think I'm pretty much going to be in 24-7 wedding mode. Invites need to go out this week (after I buy a bunch of 1-cent stamps for the RSVP cards, thanks USPS, for raising postage!). Flowers need to be ordered, chairs need to be rented, ceremony needs to be written, programs printed, etc. Neverending details, basically. I cannot believe this is all happening in three months?!? It's going to be such a good time, though, and I really can't wait!
Oh, and a request for advice - has anyone in the Chicago area ever used
Urban Outsitters for pet care before? We're planning to have them stop by for Misty while we're in Minnesota for Memorial Day weekend, and also while we're on the honeymoon. They sound like a great service, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any personal experience.
And ... I'm off to clean the living room. My life is so full of excitement!
P.S. Pictures from the last few weeks are posted on
my Flickr photostream, if anyone's interested.
