Ok from last Friday when I was at the kindergarten... pretty sure I didn't mention this. I was eating lunch with Ichou class I think. The kids near me were talking about aliens for some reason. Then this girl found this funny thing in her salad and was like "what's this?" so I said "an alien". The kids got a kick out of it and kept asking me what different parts of their lunch were so I kept saying different weird things like "an alien's hat" or "an alien's bed" or "outerspace plants"... it was pretty awesome. Then this kid was like "Darcy sensei! If you look closely at that calendar what do you see?" There was this calendar on the wall with pictures of cute animals and snowmen and snowflakes. But floating in the air were these really cute things with heads that looked like peaches. And I was like "Aliens! There are five aliens in that picture!" It was pretty funny...
the week before that we had curry and I amused them by saying カレー辛えぇ~ (karee karee~ = curry is spicy/hot).
Anyway today was really funny. I was eating lunch with the 2nd graders at Satosho and some kids were talking about their mom's shoe sizes. But I didn't realize that. All I heard was 僕のお母さんは二十四センチ. That means "my mother is 24 centimeters". So I was like YOUR MOTHER IS 24 CENTIMETERS?! And the kids all started laughing SO hard. Like, falling out of their chairs laughing. I started crying it was so funny. Afterward when I understood what they were talking about it was still funny. I was like "that would be really dangerous if your mom was 24 centimeters! You'd be walking along and all of a sudden.... oops, sorry mom! I didn't see you there!" あ、ごめん母さん!
Seriously that is the funniest Japanese conversation I think I have ever had. I love that class.
I'm so glad my Japanese level allows me to communicate with my kids.
