A nice prompt I noted on Faetan's journal (borrowed from elsewhere): 'When I make a RL post, I will include five things recently that have made me happy, or that I'm grateful for.' I'm sure this probably originated from the 'home-baked cookies and the baby Jesus' end of lifes spectrum, but I've noticed that most people (including myself) tend to use LJ primarily for maudlin bimbling, so why add to the cascading torrent of woebegone musings on mouth ulcers/christmas shopping/spam email/etc.?

Today, though I am still redoing my bibliography at 1.30am and I need to be up in 6 hours, I remain sanguine because:

1) I am listening to Dvorak, who is just mind-blowingly bloody awesome.
2) Google has probably saved my life. I forgot to note down the page numbers of the journals where I've cited articles in my thesis. If this was yore I would have to hunt down every journal and anthology I've cited over 4 years in the next fortnight for my December deadline. Thanks to wonderful Google I can type in the article title and 90% of the time find a reference somewhere with page numbers listed.
3) Today as I walked over the hill to work the Lake was covered in fog so that the whole valley seemed to have been jammed with cotton wool. It was such a crisp morning as well, and the contrast with the clear sky was startling.
4) We have an electric blanket and the cat is sleeping on it.
5) Watching Marc Anthony dress servant girls in gladiators helmets and swords before making them fight naked for his amusement while he drunk and cavorted with his dwarf just brightened my day imeasurably. I am really enjoying Rome, and want to be him.
