Haha, my advice is probably no better than Murphy's. . . . My first thoughts were: YAY, YOU'RE DOING RAFA AND WILL BE IN RALEIGH YAY YAY . . . which is not, in fact, really what you're looking for here. :) (But, on that note, we should have, like, a flute party or something when you're around.)
As for the division, I'd definitely try to convince your teacher about division seven--One of the pieces there is a Bach sonata, which sounds perfect for your situation: not necessarily technically really difficult, so it won't matter that much if you missed some practice this summer, but it'll still be musically challenging. And possibly more impressive on your final exam? That's what I figure. You're definitely beyond the Cantabile and Presto, and especially if you've played some of the things in six before, I'd mention that. Teachers are all about new repertoire. :D (Mary: So, what are you playing for your concerto this year? Me: Well, coincidentally, the all-district piece has orchestral accompaniment. Mary (essentially): that's not gonna fly, babe.)
I asked the Enloe flutes who was doing RAFA the other day--just so you know, Scott's in seven and Snayha might do six (?) and Sindhu has Bigger and Better Things (or something x_x) so she's not in the running. Haha, just thought you'd like to know. ;)
i don't think i'll have to try very hard to convince her. and this weekend i'm coming home and i'm bringing back all my music, so i'll be able to show her that i've worked on almost all of the pieces that are in 6. and I also feel like I'm the type more likely to hit a plateau after practicing a piece for a couple months, i reach a point where it doesn't get better. so if i had something easy it may not actually end up sounding as nice as something more challenging once i get to the end of the semester. that was a really convoluted sentence...
what's weird is that i'm separate cause i'm in college.
i really like Dr. S though, and flute ensemble is really fun. I even enjoyed concert band today. soon I'll have much more to practice and my practice regimen will get more solid. so that's all i have to say at this moment...
omg. she actually said that to me once when i came up with some rediculous excuse for not having done (you guessed it) my etudes...
the Busser is gorgeous. but not the fact that Mary made me sight read the whole thing yesterday at my lesson up to tempo with the piano. why does she doooo that??? she knows how much it thrills me
