this is basically just so I can get some feedback from Hannah and Murphy.
despite going to school in Boone i'm still going to do review and contest. today I talked with Dr. S (flute professor) about what music I've done already and what we should order for my lessons. so we talked about R&C and she told me about the different pieces in division 7. and division 6. she said i could pick between those two.
i played in division 7 LAST YEAR. i feel like i should move UP. not DOWN. i feel like i should challenge myself rather than perform pieces i've already played before, and i think i've done the georges enesco piece and some of the choice pieces in 6.
the only thing keeping me from screaming to her "I AM BETTER THAN DIVISION 6!" is that I'll most definitely use one of the RAFA pieces for my juried performance at the end of the semester. and it's one thing to play less than perfect for RAFA and another thing to play less than perfect for an exam grade and something central for my major.
is it better to play it safe (really safe) or move on? (not even move on, i was in 7 last year)
as you can tell I'm sort of bitter about this. and really I want division 7. but my playing has dropped so much this summer. after all the insanity that was my audition and recital and changing teachers and so much crazy stuff i was thinking about music and college this summer, my playing is bad. my tone is bad. my practice habits are worse. i don't even know.
