I'm kinda surprised to see this proposal in conservapedia, rather than in The Onion, but... umm... it looks to me as though the intent is not to achieve a more accurate translation, at all -- it's to create a version that's suitably (& strongly) biased towards their (non-religious) ideology.

I don't have a heavily-religious childhood background, but certainly was strongly influenced by what my mother (brought up in a strongly Lutheran Evangelical -- or maybe Evangelical Lutheran -- household) taught me by the time I was old enough to start kindergarten. Basically, it involved seeing religion as teaching what one should do in order to be a better person, and instilllng ideals that were less selfish or self-centered than my natural human inclination dictated. I've always read (& still read) the Bible with that in mind.

And yes, I rejected some Biblical passages & interpretations because they seemed to be shabby violations of this precept. This proposed "translation" appears to me to be an attempt to elevate such shoddy selfishness to Canonical status. *sigh* Mind you, it's not unexpected -- part of my disenchantment with conservatism comes from its common application, nowadays, to cut ethical corners, and I'm of the opinion that religion should operate in the opposite direction.
