When Rejection Feels Great :D

Unusual title, huh?

Coming from a guy with a drawer full of Job Application turn-down letters and nary a romantic relationship in 21 years... I couldn't blame you if you were perplexed (but hopefully not Superplexed) about how I've come across rejection that feels good, nay... great!

Put simply, the key was to be aiming for rejection. A while ago my Mum told me her boss was in Rotary and he wanted me to apply for this Youth Leadership Retreat dealie, which I have absolutely zero interest in. But, to save face for mum, I had to apply. So I BS'd my way through the form - making myself like I hadn't really done much but was arrogant about it. Then I got called up last week and they wanted to have a chat with me to get a feel for the kind of person I am. I though "shit" at first, but then I realised... If my track record is anything to go by, I suck at interviews.

Just in case though, I made sure I'd stayed up for a long time beforehand, neglected to shave, even wore a Bandana which I honestly don't think looks good on me (though it is Canteen week, and that's one hell of a worthy cause). I went in there continuing my uncalled-for arrogance, boasting about how I was the driving force behind the Youth Committee formation, making the point strong that I was effectively kicked from their project this year, and sounding really bitter about it. I bragged about SkillEX, despite getting a worse result than last round (though my score did significantly improve :) )... and basically telling them in not so many words that if they sent me to this thing, I would not have any useful outlet for what I learn there, and would rather continue to pursue my media/film interests.

The outcome? I was runner-up! You could say I'm used to second place and you wouldn't be wrong, but this was much different. Guess who they chose to go? Kirsti Parkes, Literal Crazy-Crackwhore and co-deputy chair of the Youth Committee! Thanks, bitch - you're a lifesaver!

Honestly, when the guy said "we thought you were were great..." I knew what was coming, but that didn't stop a wave of sheer gratification sweeping over me as he continued with "... Unfortunately...". WooHoo! Freakin' awesome. Finally my ability to not smash the glass ceiling came in handy!

In other news... I got all the BadHorse stuff in okay. In a weird turn of events, the major holdup was with KiwiWebs, as the equipment I was counting on had been sent out of town for some other job. Oddly enough, it turned out my sister Fern is working there on reception, which lead to a pretty funny exchange.

Me: "Hey, fancy meeting you here!"
*Pleasantries are exchanged*
Fern: "Hey Nigel, have you met Morgan before?"
Nigel: "Yeah through LawsWatch and the evil of The Chronicle..."
Me: "... not to mention Ucol's farcical committees before that."
Nigel: "Oh yeah, I quit that soon after you did."
Fern: "Well have you met Morgan, my brother?"
Nigel: "Oh really? Wow, you're related to everyone!"

I didn't quite catch it, but apparently there's some other connections through co-workers and her mum's side of her family.

Anywho, all the vids turned out pretty well, though I'm kicking myself now because there's an audio issue in the Pizza scene from the time difference between takes. I figured I'd just stick with it because it was the best I could get, until I showed Zane (Henchman #1) on Saturday, and he said "why not just paste the audio from the earlier take over those bits?" and he's right. It would be better to have slight lipsynching problems (since the framerate is a bit dodgy in that take anyway due to lighting) than the humming and that freaking bird that no one heard at the time... Oh well, I know better for next time now!

I've finished my readings for the Media component of my current set of papers. It was a mission, since the last third of the paper had NOTHING to do with the Media at all, it was all about Communism and Technocracies and utter bullshit. Thankfully I'm now on to the Marketing paper - and the book my lecturer wrote is genius! Very easy to read, makes perfect sense, and can easily be applied effectively to any real life situation - even personal relationships rather than anything business-wise!

If the current trend continues, I might just have to consider changing my focus.
