Round 2...

You might be wondering how SkillEX went. You might also be wondering why I'm only just now updating, whereas last time I updated pretty much as soon as I got back into Downtown Auckland after the awards ceremony.

Final Result: Third, uncredited. Marty (Gary's Dad, my coach and Judge for the IT competition) told me on the way back home that they felt it would be inappropriate to give me a Bronze after winning Silver last time - which I totally agree with, I would have felt pretty stink accepting it.

It was a lot different this year. Fantastic living quarters, absolutely outfitted with everything you could need, plenty of space, and each team had its own section to themselves - between 10 of us we had 15 rooms. Food was a far cry from the crap last time around - WelTec and the NZ Defense Force really know how to deal up a meal! Unfortunately, along with everything else, the competition also got better. Crazy people out of the woodworks from Manukau kicked all sorts of ass (one of them was a girl who looked practically identical to Timmy Leslie. Creepy!). It quickly dawned on me that everyone else was very much dedicated to the IT industry, whereas I'm really, really not. I'm good with computers, but not that good.

Bottom line though, I had an absolutely brilliant time in Wellington. I enjoyed the competition, got to witness a pretty good Battle of the Bands during the long breaks, ate more fish than in any other week of my life... and spent two fantastic days with Jessie :) Which brings me to...

Tainment, and the Entering thereof: On one of the toasty nights, I came up with a flash of inspiration - "Excuses: If Everyone Stupid Dies is never made, here's why in advance". I had a title, and a vague idea of how it might go, and when I told Jessie about it we flourished with ideas and really got something solid going. Right now it's almost complete - just one more excuse to film and slot in to the already edited timeline. There's something for everyone in there it seems - different people seem to be laughing harder at different bits, which is gravy.

Also new is the Pizza Delivery scene for ESD hath been filmed, edited and completed with a supplementary interview, even. Had a heck of a time organising henchmen, but found two that worked out well. They're both keen to be in the full movie whenever it gets underway too, so that's a bonus :)

So I've been crazy busy trying to organise everything. I didn't end up getting everything I wanted, but with the help of Jessie and her fantastic creative mind texting me all day (plus a last-minute return of Waata the music man) I've got stuff that I'm quite proud of. Here's hoping for not too many snafus tomorrow in the conversion/application process!

As a side-effect and side-note, my Massey essay where I have to pretend to be a paranoid pessimist about technology will be late. It's alright though, apparently the tutor is quite lenient.
