My parents gave us a weekend anniversary wherevere we wanted to go & we chose to go to Chicago. Ty & I had an absolute blast. We did so many things. Our hotel was wonderful. We stayed at the Amalfi. It pretty much within walking distance of most things we wanted to go to. Friday was the first day. Left our house at about 7 in the morning. Drove all the way out there. Took a little more than 3 hours to get there. We dropped our car & bags off at the hotel. We decided rather than follow the schedule we picked out ourselves, we were just going to walk around the first day.
We ended up going to the Sears Tower first. Ty had never been there but I had. We took lots of pictures. The view was beautiful. Perfect day to go too, since Sat & Sun were really cloudy & overcast. We also ran into Matt Albers, one of the people we kicked out of our wedding for being drunk. That ruined it a little for us. Then we hoofed over to the Water Tower Place to have lunch at Food Life. It was quite good. They have food there from 13 different countries. I saw Penne Arrabiata at the Italian station. Ty & I were cracking up. People were looking at us like we were crazy. (Note: For those of you who have not seen Eddie Izzard's Deathstar Canteen skit using lego men, go to YouTube and view it there. You will appreciate this so much more.) After that Water Tower, we just shopped. Went to H&M, Victoria's Secret, Macy*s (where I bought an adorable clutch to go with my new Coach bag), The Disney Store, and a few other places.
Eventually, we went back to the hotel where I promptly took a nap. Ty checked into dinner reservations for us. We ended up going to the Rainforest Cafe. Unless your really into little kids making lots of noise during dinner, I do not recommend going there. The food was ok, the atomosphere was ok, but it definately wasnt worth the $60 bill. Next, we headed over the Hancock Observatory. The view was breathtaking. It was just so serene while it was dark. I really enjoyed it. Once again, I got a lot of pictures of Chicago.
Saturday we went to the Field Museum. That was so much fun. They have Sue there (the most complete T-Rex ever found at one site). We got a lot of pictures of us infornt of Sue plus many pictures of her & the other Exhibits. Their Evolving Planet exhibit was really interesting. They had a ton of fossils & skeletons of dinosaurs. I'm posting all my pics on Facebook so people can see them. I was just amazed at everything. We also went through the Ancient Egyptian exhibit. I almost had a heart attack going through there. they have all these inscriptions on the walls & was reading while not paying attention to where I was walking. About 2 ft in front of me was a plexiglass covered shaft that went down about 300 ft. I might mention that I am super afraid of heights. I think I jumped back about 3 ft. LOL.
Saturday night , we went back to the hotel for another nap. Then woke up to go to Harry Carey's for dinner. We spent $132 on dinner for the two of us but it was worth it. They have the best calamari I have ever had. Ty had a bone-in ribeye steak. He said it ruined all other steak experiences for him because it was that good. I had a pasta dish with scallops that were so good they melted like butter. The only thing Harry Carey's can't do is make a good Sex on the Beach. Which is a shame. I would def highly recommend going there.
Then we went & hung out with Morgan. A fun time was had by all. I got to see her new car. We caught up. I missed her lots.
Sunday, we went to Shedd's Aquarium. Which was awesome! I saw lots of really intersting fish, a diver feeding a giant california green moray eel by hand, sharks, and a 26-foot anaconda. I took about a million pictures (mainly for Isaac but still). They had dolphins, beluga whales, sea loins, sea otters & penguins too. I have some video of the penguins & the dolphin show. They also had a Lizard exhibit and a wild reef exhibit. Once again I scared the crap out of myself thinking I was falling into the reef (which this part was full of Mako sharks & stingrays) because I was walking on plexiglass and not paying attention. I really need to stop doing that. The reef exhibit was really cool. I throughly enjoyed it.
Sunday afternoon we headed home & had dinner with Mom, Steve & Matt at the Olive Garden. It was a nice end to a wonderful weekend with my husband.
