for fuck's sake. i have such a hard time asking people for money. i did a gig last year that paid $200 and was a pretty awesome experience. this year i've been contacted to do it again, but he didn't specify in the email if he's still paying the same amount or if he's paying at all (damn canada council and their inconsistent funding). i need to come up with a spiel that i give people letting them know that i don't have alot of time, especially with school, and that i have to be really choosey about what i can afford (time wise) to do for free.
that being said, a friend from NY called and left a message the other day. queer kid (the first person to "they" me, so there's a special place in my heart for this person) who performed here in november at lick and wants to do a show around the same dates as aforementioned gig. i'm thinking of putting a really quick gender variant performance night, kinda like the one lisa did last february. maybe get kory and lisa to come over from the island if they can? can i take the time to set up this show for someone else? also, it's sista'hood month, how will it work out amidst all of that goings-on? aaaaaaaaaagh!! poetry, you get so stressful when i actually pay attention to you!!!
on the other hand, looks like i'll be making some good cash on the side in the next month or so.
MY BOOK CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY!! i totally bought into the oprah book club fiasco and ordered myself a copy of A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. i don't really care whether it's true or not, i read part of it at the bookstore and it was good regardless. he shouldn't have lied though, what a bad man. a bad man with about five of my dollars. i think the best part about buying the book was buying it over the internet with my very own credit card.
also, A PACKAGE FROM KATHRYN CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY!! i think it's a couple of movies that she burned and a cd. these mac people, they can make homemade presents in no time. how handy. i will send her a chapbook and burn my Whale cd for her once i buy it for myself.
i've had a really awesome friends week. kickin it off was slamming with emily last monday night, super long out of the blue cell phone chat with stacy on tuesday afternoon at the library, spending all day friday doing trans stuff with evin, saucey internet photos from devin, then some great emails from kory (used to go by heather, on the victoria slam team) discussing pronouns and name changes and such "...and you don't have to worry i would never use the berly dawn part of your name, unless of course you wanted to become BURLY DON, long haul log truck driver, if you for any reason wanted that."
i am really appreciating life again since i started leaving the house to do school work, too much time at home makes kim one unhappy person.
