Gradually - USxUK FST

Oct 06, 2009 17:35

What can I say? I have a thing for making FSTs.

A quick note: This should have had Librety by Vertical Horizon in it but I cannot find a good copy of the track anywhere. Just pretend it is there. OK? Right.
Thanks to xnaixnaix for bringing the existence of the song to my attention.

Still no fancy cover art.

GRADUALLY
Track List

Opener
01. Greensleeves

I've included two versions of the song for you; instrumental and with lyrics. Pick whichever you prefer. The other version is sung by Loreena McKennitt.

Pre-revolutionary!US/UK
02. The Water is Wide - Hayley Westenra

"The water's wide, I cannot get over,
And neither have I wings to fly,
Give me a boat that'll carry two,
And both shall row, my love and I."

I've always wanted to use this for USxUK in some way. The start always reminds me of young America wanting to see England but not being able to because he's too far away.

UK and Young!US
03. In My Arms - Plumb

"Your baby blues so full of wonder,
Your curly cues, your contagious smile,
And as I watch, you start to grow up,
All I can do is hold you tight."

You don't really need an explanation as to why I chose this song, do you?

Post Revolution UK/US
04. Worlds Apart - Jars of Clay

"I am the only one to blame for this
Somehow it all ends up the same
Soaring on the wings of selfish pride
I flew too high and like Icarus I collide
With a world I try so hard to leave behind
To rid myself of all but love
to give and die."

England angsting over what his relationship with America has become after the Revolutionary War.
(I know it doesn't really fit that well. Shut up)

US/UK
05. Brother My Brother - Blessid Union of Souls

"Brother, my brother,
Tell me what are we fighting for,
We've got to end this war."

Trying to re-establish friendly relations.

UK/US
06. What I Wouldn't Give - Holly Brook

"Feeling like I can't forgive, but I want to,
It's like I don't know how to live, I'm afraid to,
I used to think take them as they come, without hesitations, no,
Now it's like my head is filled with lies, and persuasions."

England being unable to let go of the past even though he wants to and all the while time is ticking away.

US/UK/US
07. Ever the Same - Rob Thomas

"We were drawn from the weeds,
We were brave like soldiers,
Falling down under the pale moonlight,
You were holding me like someone broken,
And I couldn't tell you but I'm telling you now,
Just let me hold you while you're falling apart,
Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down."

During the Second World War England and America are reunited as allies.

US/UK
08. Run to Me - Nick Lachey

"I'm holding on for you,
I'm fighting for your life.
And when your blinded by this jaded world,
I'll be your eyes.
Even if you fall,
I won't let you break.
When all the noise is telling you
To run away,
Run to me."

America develops feelings for England during WWII.

UK/US
09. Learning to Breath - Switchfoot

"Hello, good morning, how you do?
What makes your rising sun so new?
I could use a fresh beginning too
All of my regrets are nothing new."

England manages to accept America's feelings...

UK/US
10. Too Cold to Snow - Second Person

"Your line was so dead,
Every time that I called it was a kick in the head,
I tried to be calm
I swear to you baby you didn’t know what you’d done,
The moon shed its shell,
Some cresent effervescent light shivered and fell,
To my feet, from the sky,
I ask too many questions that get no reply."

...but soon returns to his old fears that America doesn't really love him/will leave him again some day.

US/UK
11. Your Guardian Angel - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

"I will never let you fall,
I'll stand up for you forever,
I'll be there for you through it all,
Even if saving you sends me to Heaven."

America's answer to England's worries.

BONUS
Track List

01. Don't Leave Home - Dido [UK/US]
To me this always sounds like a UK to Young!US song.
02. First Date - Blink 182 [US/UK]
Because awkward, crushing-on-England America is adorkable
03. Heartbeat - Scouting for Girls [US/UK]
I love this song for USxDrunk!UK.
04. I Owe You a Love Song - Shiny Toy Guns [US/UK/US]
I had a strange flash of deja vu while typing that. Nope, nothing to say about the song here. Moving on...

06. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down [US/UK]
Everyone and their grandmother has used this for America in some way. Who am I not to follow suit? =3
