Holy crap, an update!!

So, last night was the first EVER anime con in Utah. My friends and I somehow managed to put this thing together, MAJOR kudos to everyone for this. Since I am sure that everyone will end up talking about it in their LJs I'm just going to talk about me!

We were expecting to be lucky to have 200 people at this convention. I was ready to deal with at most 300 people. We had OVER 600 people show up!! That's just insane!

I was head of security(Security Ninja...it said so on my shirt!) and I barely had enough people to cover everything I needed covered. This is something that I am going to have to change for next year, along with making sure everyone who needs one has a radio and that they keep the stupid things. The radios weren't a terribly major problem, though it would have been nice to have one down in the dealers room since that room is potentially one of the most problematic areas of the con. But I can deal with that when the time comes.

Let's back up a bit...

Thursday afternoon at about 3pm I woke up for my normal day, went to work at 7 got home at 5am on Friday. Now, any other day I would have gone to bed at this point, but I didn't because I knew that I had to be up at 6am on Saturday, and due to my schedule I cannot normally sleep if I go to bed anything before about 4am(which is still pushing it) so I stayed up all day thursday. Well, I took a two hour nap at about 1pm. My original plan at this point was still to be in bed at 8pm, didn't happen. I was out with Noelle and Neffie shopping for stuff for the next day. I ended up not getting home until about 3am Sat morning, granted I took another quick nap sometime through out the night. Then I go to sleep at 3am and wake up at 6am not quite ready to handle the next 20 hours.

This is part of the reason that I am so sore today, I knew that if I stopped moving then I would end up falling asleep. So I was constantly on the movie. Granted, the major part of my constant moving was the fact that there were OVER 600 PEOPLE! That's a lot of people to watch over, especially since this was our first con and we weren't fully organized or even close to prepared for that many people.

All in all things went surprisingly smoothly. No fights to be broken up, no one trying to sneak in, no medical emergencies. The only thing that was stolen was a girl's swag bag, but there was nothing that I could do about that because she didn't make use of our bag/coat/stuff check system. She just put her bag down and when she came back it was gone.

I have a headache so I am going to stop writing now. There is more that I want to say, but the majority of that is things that I feel we could do differently next year to increase the efficiency of everything...and I guess that's what the de-briefing meeting is for.
