One advantage of my job is that I am self-directed. Nine days out of ten this means I'm only as bored as I allow myself to be. Right now, there's so much time-sensitive cleanup stuff, I feel guilty for even typing this up while waiting for output files to verify. :>
One of the background projects that gained steam is a metadata cleanup and hardcopy file digitization project. We're quickly running out of physical room in this building, and I'm packing the files off to offsite storage as I clean them up and scan their hardcopy-only data into out PLM system. The gaining-steam part is that we're looking to migrate to a new ERP and possible a new PLM system by the end of July. So my time to clean and tidy is running out fast, as now it's a race to get stuff updated prior to the migration.
Angie, my coworker, has been sitting through ERP/PLM system demos and I've been covering both our workloads. All I can say is thank GOD for my iPod. I've spent more time plugged into the thing this week while I've cranked out DCOs than I have since our last car trip to Chicago.
Listening to Bela Fleck today. Classical music on the banjo is very similar to a harpsichord sound, and I'm finding it soothing for some reason. His instrumentations are imaginative as well- the pairing of the marimba and the banjo I particularly enjoy.
I'm taking Monday off. Grandma and Grandpa Carruthers are coming back earlier than expected to Minnesota from Arizona. Long story, but as I hear it the change of scenery was too much for Marie to handle. Alex is finally talking about a nursing home for her. So why am I taking a day off in conjunction with their return? They're bringing a suitcase of pomegranates back for me to turn into jelly for them. This could be interesting. My dad, bless him, has volunteered to help me.
So it's a Friday afternoon and things are finally slowing down at work and I'm distracted because I'm going out for dinner with my coworker Vickie tonight. We're going out for sushi, which I've not had in ages, and I'm really looking forward to the food. Still have not decided where we're going, but I've got a hankering for Sushi Tango's anaconda roll.
And I want to knit this weekend. One of my coworkers brought me some cool yellow-and-orange yarn from Turkey (she went home for a visit) and I should have just enough to make Katie a hat and perhaps a little scarf out of it. I fould a cute and simple-looking pattern that should be adorable:
