I realize that it has been a long time since I've written. So I figure I should give you an update. The short version is that I was in AL freelancing. A few months ago I moved back to MD to look for work. After many trips between DC and NYC I had been to a number of interviews, but had only gotten one offer, and that was from a job in Japan. I was losing hope. On a whim, and advice from a family friend, I went to the Howard University communications job fair. I'd never attended Howard, but no one else needed to know that. There I met a with a recruiter for a PR firm. Nothing really came of it, or so I thought. After that I devoted myself to studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, more as a way to do something, rather than be depressed.
The result of those two actions manifested one day before my birthday. I passed the JLPT level one exam. I'm sure this is a surprise to people who knew my Japanese level in college. The second result was that I had a very successful in-person interview with that same company in Portland Oregon. This was after 4 phone interviews and a writing test. I got the job.
So I'm moving. Now I've got to find a way to ship my stuff cross-country. I'm taking this opportunity to clean out my stuff, my life, and to a certain extent, my mind. Just before I experienced this success I came to the realization that every experience in life teaches you a lesson, especially the bad experiences. I may not be proud of some of the things I've done, but I am proud that I learned those lessons.
So that is about it for now. Once I get there and in the swing of things I'll update more often.
Take care
