I did a bit of a ranty rant on my microblog, so here it is in all its glory.
To be able to encrypt my iCloud drive I had to delete my old Macbook that can’t update to Big Sur because MacOS already takes 95% of the drive space, I had to move it to another iCunt account. Can I share a folder between the two ? No, just crash

@kevin the only good part about this whole shitshow is I’ve been able to add the second iCloud account as a part of the family plan so I can at least share licences, space, and other iShit

@kevin just now having to reupload the entirety of the documents that were on iCloud but are now going back on, effectively, the same iCloud account but whatever, I don’t decide these things or just make this whole process more easier

@kevin in the end, because the old MacBook can’t update, I can’t use Proton Drive for MacOS on it, so anything that I want on both machines needs to be on iCloud. The new MacBook is working perfectly with Proton Drive in lieu of iClout

@kevin and external storage is needed because MacOS is so unbelievably bloated neither laptop has a sufficient amount of space available to exist disconnected from the internet

It is done - while the old Macbook can’t encrypt shit on iCloud, Cryptomator can. So the ugly solution is - Cryptomator Vault > iCloud Shared Folder > Remount on New MacBook > Paf encrypted shared documents folder for 99 european cents a month
