on wednesday, july 2nd i went for a picnic lunch with my friend at belmar park and i met these geese.

on the 3rd the fence people finished the fence. it's a little disappointing because it doesn't touch the ground in many places so we had to shove rocks at the base so the kitties can't go under. i assume this is a cost-savings measure so they don't have to custom-cut boards.

d & l, my friends from grad school, came early on friday the 4th. we had a great day eating hot dogs and watching fireworks and going to the book store.

here's the official picture for the 4th - this is right after we watched fireworks at jefferson park.

here's lunch on the 4th at steve's snappin dogs (you might remember steve's from my bday pictures back in january, but you probably won't remember unless you're stalking me).

after lunch and the bookstore we walked around the lake at city park. it was disgusting! the whole thing was covered in this sludgy algae and i think these ducklings got stuck because they swam out a little then just sat in this spot.

the city of denver doesn't have public fireworks displays but the sports stadiums have them and you can see invesco field from the park by our house. we went to watch those but the real show was everyone setting off illegal fireworks in every direction around the city. some of them were going off in the park not too far from where we were sitting. it was both scary and thrilling. these were not small displays, some people must have invested serious money in fireworks this year. some folks had these sparklers that stick in the ground and look pretty/scary.

none of my other pictures really came out.

yesterday morning d and i went to six flags for 2 hours to ride a bunch of roller coasters (i have a season pass and my co-worker gave me his season pass for d to use). this is before we left, july 5th:

after we recovered we all went to watercourse for lunchy-brunch.

now we're off to meet d & l in estes park where they've been hiking all morning. we're just going up for the company not the exercise.
