Just came back from the circus. Was all ready to not be sad about having to miss this year, but suddenly they switched to a drive-in format and we could go after all, and it was amazing. Each year they have a different theme. Last year it was women in circus. This year it's "we've been performing since 1842 and nothing's going to stop us". ( Read more... )

I am not by any stretch of thought a Bolshevik sympathizer, but: they should've fucking stayed in rainy Hoboken.

So, it's been a week, and I'm still a bit sore about Soiled Dove and it occurred to me that I'm experiencing use of Lotta Crabtree's and Mary E. Pleasant's names in the performance as something akin to cultural appropriation. Which is weird.
Too bad, really - the food, music, decorations, and costumes deserved a much better plot and performance.
