how to handle a telemarketer
This morning, I got a telemarketer from a newspaper I used to subscribe to. She asked why I let my subscription lapse, and I said, "Because I work at a library where I get to read it for free." She wished me a good day and hung up. BOOYA!
When anyone who isn't from the LA Times or the Press Telegram calls, when they ask me how I am, I borrow a leaf from Brooke McEldowney's book and say, "I'm a pathetic geek with nothing better to do than cling to a telephone while other people love and laugh and live happy, meaningful lives."
Three out of four of them hang up before I finish.
