Happy June 1st!

What a lovely week it's been. All my wee bairn are in town, and it is glorious hanging out with them and reveling in all the cross-family hassling/teasing ("watching for signs of life"). I have been able to take copious hours off from work and had a beautiful bike ride in today. I go the long way, around the rail yards in NE and down along the river, so it takes a full hour to go a very short distance (if I were a crow, flying, that is). Our garden is in and growing by leaps and bounds; vegetables, flowers and herbs in the front and back gardens. The weather has been cooperative for most of the things we have wanted to do, and young alexinamman and I had a delicious supper on the deck yesterday. He leaves for Syria in less than a week, so I am secretly glad that most of his local friends are busy with day jobs, which leaves him lots of time to spend with me. He is filling his days with fillings, immunizations, visits to the eye doctor and shopping for the few things he needs for his trip. Now that he has one middle eastern trip under his belt, he knows what you need to bring for a comfortable and hi-tech stay.

I have started painting in acrylics, and am enjoying a new slant on color and form. It is very liberating, after spending the last 5 or 6 years using watercolors and trying diligently to get my paintings to look the way I want. I have taken a few workshops and watched lots of videos, and these really help me to loosen up and try new techniques. Dear galacticvoyeur has been hard at work in the back yard and has almost finished building a cedar deck outside the studio, surrounding the hot tub. We are both taking our vacation time this summer at home, playing around the Cities and relaxing. It makes for a true vacation, and it is nice to sleep in one's own bed and eat predictable food and not have to pack. We can even sleep in the studio and pretend that we are up at our "lake cabin." We are easily amused.

Have a great summer!
