Chapters: 1

Continued off from Chapter 1...

When I reach his apartment building, I fling open the front door, and I attempt to run up the stairs. A fat security guard stops me and asks, "Where do you think you're going?"

"I'm just checking on my boyfriend. I'll be very quick! It'll take less than 5 minutes, I promise!" I quickly answer him.

"What apartment does he live in? I'll have to get his permission first," the security guard responds.

"2E."

The man looks around a bunch of buttons on his desk before pressing one. I hear a ring emitting from a speaker next to the buttons. After a few minutes, the security guard ends the call.

"Sorry, he's not responding," the security guard says.

"Try again," I ask.

"Look, he's obviously not here, Miss, so just come back at another time, ok?"

"No! I have to know if he's here or not!"

The security guard shakes his head at me, and I decide to ignore him. I run past him and towards the stairs.

"Hey!" he calls after me.

Continuing to run, I quickly reach the 2nd floor. When I hear heavy footsteps behind me, I know the security guard is chasing after me. However, he's moving at a slow pace, so I don't worry about him.

I sprint down the hall, and when I reach 2E, I knock on the door.

"Kyuhyun!" I call out, "Are you there?"

Hearing no response, I loudly pound on his door now.

I repeat, "Kyuhyun!"

But I hear nothing but the loud footsteps of the fat security guard.

I turn the knob on Kyuhyun's door and I'm surprised to find that it's not locked. I push the door open, and I gasp at the sight. Empty. The entire apartment is empty. There is nothing but dust in the corners of the room.

I slowly walk into the room and I observe my surroundings. By the time the security guard arrives, I am already sitting down on the floor, staring into space.

The security guard doesn't say anything since he's out of breath, taking in greedy mouthfuls of air.

"Why is this apartment empty?" I quietly ask.

Now breathing normally, the fat man replies, "2E... I don't think there's anybody living here at the moment."

I frown at him. "You think? Are you sure? Maybe you're mistaking this for another apartment?"

The man seems to be deep in thought now. Then he says, "No, I'm sure. The last resident moved out a few months ago."

"A few MONTHS ago?!"

"Yup."

"But... I just came here a week ago!"

"Really? I don't remember seeing you though."

"N-No... This isn't happening... Are you really sure-"

"Look, lady, you're not supposed to be here right now, and I have to get back downstairs to patrol the area. Please leave."

At this, my eyes start to water. For some odd reason, it feels as if some invisible chain has snapped. I blink, and tears start rolling down my cheeks.

"Aw, no, no, don't cry!" the security guard pleads, "D-Don't cry! Argh..."

I feel my cheeks getting hot as I start to sob. To be honest, I don't really know why I'm crying as well.

Although the security guard looks frustated, he calmly asks, "Why are you crying?" Then he adds, "Sorry, I'm not good at dealing with crying women, but I'm giving it a try, so please have mercy on me!"

I wipe my eyes, trying to hold back the tears. Sniffling, I reply, "I-I d-don't know! B-But I can't f-find my boyf-friend! I c-can't call him b-because his numb-ber's not in s-service, h-he doesn't live i-in the a-apartment I th-thought he l-lived in, I-I don't know w-where he i-is at the m-moment..."

"So it's like he disappeared?" the security guard asks.

I shakily nod my head and continue, "B-But it d-doesn't make s-sense! He w-was j-just w-with me last n-night!"

The man gives me a concerned look and doesn't say anything else.

I feel uncomfortable under his stare. "Wh-What?" I ask, "What's w-wrong?"

The security guard answered, "Well, the way you're describing this person..."

I murmur, "Kyuhyun."

"Huh?" He gives me a puzzled look.

"H-His name is K-Kyuhyun."

"Oh. Well, the way you're describing Kyuhyun, it's like he doesn't exist..."

"NO!"

The man jumps at my sudden shout.

I continue, "He's real! I know h-he is, for sure! I mean, I j-just saw him last n-night!"

The security guard gives me a solemn expression. "But, you don't have proof of his existence, right? His number doesn't work, he doesn't live here, and you don't even know where he is... Does he have any relatives?"

I think about it for a moment. Then I shake my head. "N-No, none that I k-know of..."

He lifts up his hands in response. "See? Nothing about his existence."

I stare at him for a moment before dropping my head back down, now looking at the ground. "It's impossible..."

I hear the security guard approach me, and when he's right next to me, he puts his hand on my right shoulder. He speaks up, "You know, maybe... Maybe it is possible..."

Surprised, I quickly turn to look at him. "What do you mean? What do you know?"

My sudden movement seems to have caught the man offguard. He continues, "I mean, maybe Kyuhyun's not real..."

"Why would you say such a thing?!" I exclaim.

"I'm not sure how to explain it, but... There's no proof that he exists, but to you, he's definitely real. Perhaps, maybe... He's real to only you...?" The security guard looks away.

"What... What are you suggesting? That I'm crazy? You think I'm hallucinating or something?" My eyes become watery again and my voice starts quiver, "Wh-Why won't you b-believe me? He really d-does exist!" Tears are threatening to spill out.

The man panics at my relapse. In a desperate attempt to comfort me, he pats my back. "N-No! Don't start crying again! Um, look, I'll even help you! Ok?" He started speaking more softly. "Shh, shh. You're not alone, don't worry."

I sniffle. "H-How are you g-going to help me?" My body is involuntarily jerking now because of my heavy sobs.

"I'm going to help find your Kyuhyun, alright? So you don't have to cry anymore, ok?"

My eyes brighten up. "R-Really? You'd do that?"

"Of course. I hate to see people cry. Nobody deserves to feel that sad, and you don't either."

I rub my eyes, and I try to put on a smile for him. Although I'm still crying, this time, it's out of happiness and relief.

~
When I leave Kyuhyun's apartment building, I wave goodbye to its nice security guard as I contemplate about the events that just occured recently.

After the security guard offered to help me, he told me that he knew someone that specialized in tracking people down, telling me where I could find this person in the process. He didn't give me the name of the person, but he did give me the address of this person's office on a small card.

Examining the small card, I realize that the address on it is not that far from where I am right now. Worrying about Kyuhyun, I rush over to the investigator's office.

~
I reach a tall and somewhat professional looking building, and I wonder if it's the right address. I think, Why would an investigator put his office here, in such a public place? Aren't they supposed to be all secretive and sneaky?

When I go in, a lady at a counter next to the entrance greets me and offers me her assistance.

"Hello!" the lady smiles at me, "Do you need any help?"

"Um, actually, yes," I accept, since I'd probably get lost in a place like this anyways, "I was referred to a private investigator here, and I need to know where his or her office is."

The woman looks surprised at my answer, and gestures for me to come closer.

I lean in and she starts to whisper, "Um, do you have any proof of the referral?"

I nod and hand her the small card that the security man gave me. After closely inspecting it for a while, she hands it back to me with another smile.

She continues to whisper, "Alright, next time, please be a little more quiet, ok? No one's supposed to know about him."

Him? So the inspector's a guy?, I think, And I wonder why people can't know about him...

"Follow me," the lady quietly instructs, walking towards a small secluded looking hallway, and I quickly tag behind her.

As we go deeper into the hallway, I notice that there's only one door at the end of the hall.

I ask, "Is that...?"

The woman nods, confirming my suspicions. The private investigator is beyond that door.

When we reach the door, the lady opens the door for me, and I see a dark staircase.

"You must continue alone," the assistant speaks up, "I cannot go with you. I am sorry if you wanted me to accompany you down, but I am not allowed any further beyond this point."

"What?!" I exclaim. But, it's so dark and creepy! "Why? Who made that rule?"

"My deepest apologies, Miss," the woman gestures for me to go inside, "but the investigator himself requested for it to be this way. I have no jurisdiction over his choices, since he is, in fact, the owner of this building..."

I gasp, "He OWNS this building?!"

The lady now looks terrified. "Ah, no, I mean- I have said too much, Miss," she urges, pushing me towards the staircase, "Please go inside."

I turn around to say, "But-"

She shuts the door in my face, cutting me off.

"Hmph," I pout, "What kind of assistant shuts a door in your face?"

I decide to continue and I head down the stairs. After walking for some time, I start to wonder if I'm ever going to reach the investigator. How long is this staircase?!

When I finally reach the end of the staircase, I am out of breath. I lean on the wall to my right and hold my hand to my head, feeling a sudden case of dizziness.

"Woah...," I murmur, "No, Sungmin, you can't stop now. You're almost there...," I encourage myself.

I take a deep breath, and steady myself. I rub my temples as I walk towards the office in front of me. The title on the office just says, "PRIVATE EYE", and I wonder why the person didn't include his name. Maybe he wants to remain anonymous...

As I venture near his office, I'm starting to become curious of the person behind the door. Is he kind? Is he cruel? Would he listen to my request? ... What does he look like...?

I finally reach his door and I gulp when I put my hand on the doorknob. I now notice that my hands are trembling.

Ah!, I suddenly remember, Where are my manners? I should knock before I enter...

I gently rap the door with my hand, and jump in surprise when I hear, "Come in."

I am taken aback with the person's voice. Why does it sound so familiar...?

I turn the doorknob and when I proceed to enter, I notice a man sitting at a small desk, with two chairs in front. When he looks at me from his paperwork, I freeze in my step, staring at him with a mixture of fear and excitement.

The man shifts uncomfortably due my stare. "What? Why are you staring at me?" he asks in an annoyed tone.

"Y-You're...," I start to murmur, "It's really you..." My eyes fill to the brim with tears.

The man gives me a confused look. "Huh?"

I run over to him and give him a hug. "I finally found you... Kyuhyun."

Readers of all kinds (including silent ones xD), tell me your thoughts~ :'D
Ooh, also, from now on, text like this: [ just random text here~ kyah~ ], means that is a comment from future!Sungmin. ^w^
If any of that is confusing, don't be afraid to ask! I'd be happy to explain! :'3
Anyways, um... I forgot what I was going to say lol. ;A;
Never mind, I just remembered. xD
I'm not sure what chapter of what fic I'm going to update next, but it's most likely going to be my FB fic, "WHY CAPSLOCK IS AWESOME".
Although I put down that it's a one-shot, there's a small chance that in the future, if I ever write another FB fic, which is pretty likely, I might make a separate section in the master list, like, "FB Fics" or something. xD
And finally, here's a mini-spoiler for the next chapter of "Missing"~: there's going to be a confrontation between Sungmin and the mysterious man~ and a surprising result at the end~
... Sorry, I know it's not much, but it's all I can come up with at the moment. :(
Omo, my A/N has become this long again. xD
I wonder why it keeps turning out like this. Perhaps it's because I have a lot to say? xD I also wonder if anyone even bothers to read my author's note anyways. xD
Oh well, I'll keep on expressing my thoughts!~ Yeah~ >8'D /feeling all empowered and somewhat rebellious inspired

And silent readers~ don't be afraid to comment~ I welcome all comments (as long as they're nice please ^w^) at any time~ :]
