BSG SkyCap Review/Recap The Oath - Part 3

Feb 05, 2009 18:17

Okay…Roslin's back in the game…we hope. Things are getting very interesting…

Let's jump back in…

BACK TO ACTION:

0934 HRS - CIC

Frak…Gaeta's gone creepy-scary. And dammit…Red Wing is in on the mutiny too?? Grr.

You know when Gage the Sunshine Boy is hesitating at the sound of gunfire in the near distance…that's saying something.

Gotta say Gaeta is so not Papadama…his uber scary calm 'stay with us' spiel is a far cry from Adama's SOP. Erm…I guess that's probably part of the point, yeah?

0942 HRS - Baltar's Flock Palace (What? Compartment just doesn’t work for me)

Coolio…looks like Jeanne gave the Flockleteers a full report of what went down on the hangar deck.

Heh…you can't keep a good chief down. 'Let's go people…they could show up any time'. Although it seems totally bizarro that Tyrol is hanging with Baltar. Yeah, yeah…Baltar is a Cylon friend…but still…it messes with my head.

OMGS! I'm dying. Baltar's whole 'you understand I have no desire to leave you' words completely contradict that utter relief on his face that he's FINALLY getting away from his Flockleteers. He looks quite gleeful at the thought that he's right up there on the list of public enemies.

*falls over* Killing me. The teary good-bye…the promise of prayers…then the head in the lap? DYING. Frankly it's kinda nice to have some comic relief.

Hee…I get the feeling that Baltar is torn between dying to get off the ship and being terrified of leaving the sanctuary, with lots and lots of bodies he can hide behind, of the Flock Palace.

It's kinda good to hear Galen say 'us' when referring to the hanger deck being lost. We'll see if that lasts. : )

Shit…who's being dragged off? Hopefully one of the bastard mutineers. Ahh..nice of them to clear the path for the Partners in All Things Great and Roslin though.

Damn…sure are a lot of people down on that deck…and when did the corridors get so narrow down there? *shrugs*

Heh…Lee's all 'Hello? We're trying to cover your ass here' and Roslin's like 'Pffftt…don't need it…I've been running laps all over the ship…peeps KNOW me down here.' *snorfles*

Ohhh…is that the SmiteADude Flockleteer? She REALLY doesn't like Roslin…good thing Tyrol stepped in.

You know…Galen's great for exposition…he does it WAY better than Shiny does. Here's the deets:

Tyrol: There's something you need to know. I've got people all over the ship giving me information. The Admiral was just led away from the CIC.

Awesome reaction from Lee and Roslin…

Roslin: Where to?

Tyrol: No idea. But my guess would be the brig. Don't trust the ship's comm systems. We're using these. The hanger deck's lost to us. [To Lee] If you can get your father to the secondary storage bay within the hour, I'll get him off the ship.

Roslin: I'll handle the fleet. Go.

Lee: Galen…why're you doing this?

Tyrol: The old man deserves a better fate than what he'll get from them. Go find your father, Lee.

BRIEF PAUSE FOR RANDOM OPINION:

See…aside from kind of wondering how CylonTyrol has people all over the ship feeding him info, this is an awesome way to bring us up to speed. And don't get me wrong…it rocks that Galen is helping out…I'm just surprised that his Cylon status doesn't seem to be working against him like it is for Shiny and Tigh. WooHoo for that.

The other thing I love about this? The fact that Lee asks Tyrol why he's being Mr. Helpful. First…because Lee might not be a gung ho CylonHater anymore, but his distrust hasn't been completely displaced. I wouldn't buy it if it were. And second because I wouldn't doubt Lee's wondering what the catch is. Galen's terms for the upgrades were supposedly non-negotiable and yet they appeared to be willing to assist with those anyway. Why wouldn't Lee question his motives here? The fact that Tyrol's answer is all about the old man deserving a better fate than what Gaeta's Goons will give him is dead on the right one Lee needed to hear.

Good stuff.

BACK TO RECAPPAGE:

0947 - En Route to the Brig

Heh…even being escorted to the brig Adama kicks ass. I LOVE the divide and conquer tactics he uses on Nowart and Maldonado.

HA!!! Big mouth…not much of a soldier. Sorry…that amuses me greatly.

Hrm…this is interesting:

Adama: That doesn't matter, because when this is over there's gonna be a reckoning and live or die…it's how you act today that's gonna matter.

RANDOM SIDE NOTE:

Wow…the word reckoning is being bandied about quite a bit. First Gaeta, saying it to Kara and now Adama with the marines, both 'sides' represented so to speak. Wouldn't it be interesting if the so-called reckoning comes in the form of Cavil's Baseships? As Tigh likes to say…that would definitely catch them with their pants down, yeah? My head wants to explode at the thought of the fleet having to work together to haul ass after everything that's happened. *LOL*

BACK TO RECAPPAGE:

*I'm not gonna let a guy like you run me off my own ship*

Gotta say I love the way Adama 'appeals' to Nowart. 'You wanna shoot…go on…let's see if you got a pair'. He picked the right guy…cause it's obvious Nowart is waffling.

HA! That was SMMOOOOOTTTHHH. And probably the one thing Gaeta didn't account for. He should've expected that the old men wouldn't go along without a fight. Good Riddance Maldonado.

Frak me…Saul Tigh with a gun in each hand kinda blows my mind. *LOL* Go Team Badassery!

Nowart gets a stay for now…maybe as a bargaining tool for later? Or something for Kara to shoot at? You never know. : D

BRIEF PAUSE FOR RANDOM COMMENTARY:

Oh my gods. Roslin and Baltar's snark fest? For the frakking win:

Roslin: Going somewhere?

Baltar: Yes. As a matter of fact I am. [clears throat] They consider it to be a precautionary measure.

Hee hee…it's almost like he's a naughty school boy who just got caught cheating. *LOL*

Baltar: Sensible. Given the delicate nature of the fleet.

Roslin: Very sensible considering the fleet's tearing itself to pieces right now.

Baltar: Have you come to pray?

*needs to remember my rule of NO liquids while watching this show*

Roslin: No. I have something more tangible in mind. There is a chance we can avoid more bloodshed if I address the fleet and reassure them the Cylons mean no harm.

Baltar: Well, your faith in your oratorical skills is impressive…

OMGS! I LOVE him.

Baltar: …and I'd love to help, but unfortunately communication down here just as dodgy as…as…

Roslin: I know you have a wireless. You've been using it to communicate with your flock all these months.

Paula: It's a trick, Gaius.

Roslin: I wish it were.

Paula: She's afraid of your teachings. She will take the wireless and she will silence you-

Baltar: All right. Okay, Paula. Thank you.

There's something so hilarious about Roslin rolling her eyes. Seriously.

Baltar: She's got a point, hasn't she? I mean if you can convince the fleet…why can't you convince her?

*snorts*

Roslin: The thing is that I never really believed in your conversion so I was counting on your well-honed sense of self-preservation.

Baltar: I'm so sick of your insinuations.

Hmm…interesting. I kinda love the look on Baltar's face before he says that. After last week's rageilicioius rant against god…I like that there's maybe a little bit of doubt in him. I also love that he'll shove that to the back burner to stick it to Roslin. *LOL*

Baltar: I recall your sudden allegiance to the priestess Elosha and the Scrolls of Pythia the last time your political fortunes were doubted. Tell me…um…how is that working out for you now?

Oh BURN! And awesome…even if it is a massive bitchslap. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this…and Roslin sums both of them up beautifully…

Roslin: If it makes you happy, maybe we're both frauds and this is our last chance to atone.

Isn't that awesome? And there's just something very cool about Roslin and Baltar being on the same page even though they loathe each other.

BACK TO RECAPPAGE:

0956 HRS

Okay…does it piss anyone else off that Connor is referring to people as civilians? Cause…um…last time I checked he was a frakkin' civilian himself. Grrr. It kinda bugs me that marines are taking orders from him.

And it REALLY irritates me that they're taking out 'civvies' trying to protect the engine room and aft supply hold. Seriously. GRRR.

I'm kinda hoping that additional fire power they need explodes in their faces, you know?

Honestly? I think Gaeta's kind of stupid for wanting all essential personnel held in one location. And why the frak wasn't the guy leading Hoshi out along with Adama and Tigh? *shrugs*

Heh…might see some friendly faces there…battered and bloody they may be.

1012 HRS - CIC

Interesting that the ships' captains are all asking who's in charge of Galactica. Also somewhat amusing that Gaeta seems to kinda not want to deal with it.

Heh…Gaeta's taken command of Galactica but the Admiral is NOT in custody. Hee hee.

Aww…Zarek's not so happy that Adama is still alive. Damn right he's disappointed…loose end is putting it mildly. I so want to find out that he did indeed order the old man's execution. But then again, I don't.

Hrm…Gaeta thinks they can fine tune their rationalizations later…that surprises me. A lot.

Damn…the fleet will fall in line…especially after Zarek what? Shows? Showers? Not sure because Roslin cuts in and interrupts…not that I mind…but now I'm curious.

Speaking of Roslin…her oratorical skills are impressive…I'm quite surprised, but truly happy she puts the agreement of an alliance on her own shoulders. And I like that she admits it was frightening and difficult. And I LOVE that Gaeta's all what the frak about it.

I wonder if the repetitive wording is meant to soothe the fleet? Crossroads and long and painful journey? Not so sure I'd want to be reminded of that. *shrugs*

But this…this I quite like:

Roslin: Cylons and humans have been at war for generations. We know nothing else. And we have been locked in a struggle that has seen both sides suffer unspeakable loss. But with our supplies running low and our options limited, our former enemies may represent our last, perhaps our only hope. To those in the fleet and on Galactica who would reject this alliance, I am asking you…no I am begging you to reconsider and place your trust back in those who have brought you this far and to reject those traitors who would use your fear of the Cylons to destroy Colonial civilization as-

Heh…I kinda love that the new CIC 'crew' can't figure out to shut her up. *LOL* And that Felix has to do it himself. Things were running just a tad too smoothly for him.

Also…cool intercuts of the Quorum and Baltar's Flock Palace while she's speaking. Sadly…Zarek's probably not above chalking Roslin's speech up to the ravings of a madwoman. *sigh*

Heh…Zarek's calling Gaeta to do damage control.

BRIEF PAUSE FOR RANDOM COMMENTARY:

1017 HRS - Aux Machinery Access

There's just something so awesome when the Partners in All Things Great meet up with Team Badassery. I mean it bounces back and forth between relief that it's the four of them against the rest of the ship to tense infighting with Kara going toe to toe with Adama and Lee squaring off against Tigh (a little later). And oddly enough…the youngins have truly good points they make.

So let's break it down a little…

Lee can't get near the brig…even if Adama was there. Kara clears her throat and glances off to her side? What's going on? This corridor…

They slowly make their way around one corner…movement…footsteps…

Silent communication again…a glance from Kara…nod from Lee…then…around the corner ready for action…

It's Adama. He's all right. Whew.

And here's where it gets dicey. Because Kara spots the prisoner in front of Tigh and she's ready to add to the death count. Whoa there…stand down. Starbuck. Adama places himself between her gun and Nowart. STARBUCK!

Um…yeah…she's got a good point…they don't have time to take prisoners if they want to take back the ship. However I can see Adama's POV, too, when he tells the marine to get out of his face…sparing him could provide a potential ally.

Then again…Kara hits on something Adama NEEDS to realize…they are NOT Adama's men anymore…they are, in fact, the enemy. Her parting shot at the guy may seem harsh and unyielding…but yeah…probably gonna end up being necessary before it's all over.

And she can probably see that more clearly than any of the four…she's already got experience with being on the outside…unaccepted and being turned on by the people she used to trust and who trusted her in return.

It's so damn twisted I think they're all going to be in knots before the last body falls.

BACK TO RECAPPAGE:

1021 HRS - Secondary Storage Bay

More Roslin/Baltar goodness:

Roslin: Felix Gaeta. Who would've thought? You probably knew him better than anyone back on New Caprica.

Baltar: Well, obviously, his loyalties were divided even then. It seems we both made rather bad choices when it comes to our presidential aides de camp, wouldn't you say?

Roslin can only nod her head…cause yeah…exactly.

BRIEF PAUSE FOR MORE RANDOM COMMENTARY:

1023 - Waste Water Stowage

And we're back with Four Against the Ship. I'm rather sad that Adama has to wonder how many men Gaeta has. Like Lee says…enough. Putting a number to it would only bring everyone down. Right?

Now it's Lee's turn to drive a point home as Tigh wonders how Tyrol could find a way off the ship in all this mess. Lee doesn't know…but Tigh should. Tyrol's one of his. And hell yes, Lee's got a problem…Tigh's people annihilated the human race. I love that Tigh tells Adama to let the great statesman talk…because what Lee says is important.

Once you get past Zarek's arrogance…he is right. And that's what he uses to make his move. And the second part of Lee's point about making pretty speeches about putting the past behind them and setting differences aside…but when that is what survival comes to…it's A LOT to swallow. And yeah…it's all they've got…but as Lee points out…it's all they were left with…and oddly enough…I think it hits home for Tigh because he's not spouting pithy comments anymore.

And let's not forget the great statesman witnessed what happened to his father when he found out Tigh was a Cylon…not to mention there's a long, long history between these two men that usually puts them at loggerheads over key issues. I'd be pleasantly surprised if they end up finding common ground because they have to work together to keep people alive…or hell…just the old man.

BACK TO RECAPPAGE:

Ohhh…Baltar…I kinda love you right now. Getting so fidgety while you're waiting you have to call Felix. : )

1027 - CIC

And Gaeta's face when Gage tells him it's Baltar. *LOL* Awesome. But notice he takes the call.

Excellent dialog…

Gaeta: What do you want, Gaius?

Baltar: What do I want? I want this to stop. Now. Right now. This is madness. This doesn't become you, you know. Treason…or whatever they're going to call it when this thing is through. I know you, Felix. I know you're a good man. You're an honorable man. You want to do the right thing.

See…Gaeta is all but rolling his eyes here…something Gaius did to him on occasion.

Baltar: Even your failings have been understandable.

Gaeta: What? Like serving in your corrupt administration?

Baltar: You know exactly what I'm talking about. Our little secret. Sealed with a very special pen. But I forgive you for that, Felix. I'm telling you…if you are hungry for redemption this is not the way.

Gaeta: Good-bye Gaius.

Interesting no? I mean I'm fascinated that Baltar tried to reach out…it always surprises me when he makes seemingly selfless moves like that. Of course, there's usually something self-serving in them as well, which we don't find out about until later. *LOL*

And Felix's pissy attitude when he slams the handset down makes me wonder about the redemption angle. Might ponder that a bit…there is something rather appealing with the thought that Gaeta's actions are rooted not only in hatred for the Cylons…but in guilt and loathing of himself. I could totally get behind that idea.

Of course it could just be the lack of morhpa and he's jonesing for a fix. *shrugs*

BRIEF PAUSE FOR RANDOM COMMENTARY:

So…Raptor 619 is supposedly transporting human crew from the Baseship…but it's actually the getaway vehicle. Sneaky…I like.

And you know what? I'm more than happy to hand wave the whole dealio of everyone forgetting the secondary storage airlock even existed. Tyrol's not the deck chief anymore…he's got more than enough time on his hands to remember all this stuff.

Besides…Gaeta can't be the one having all the fun.

Speaking of fun…the reactions to the 'rents make out session just made me laugh out loud on the rewatch. It's like no one wants to intrude on the moment (with the exception of the Eight, who seems fascinated) but hello? Middle of an airlock…no place to go. *LOL* And Bill and Laura could give a frak. I kind of love that. : D

Something that does feel out of place to me a little? Laura saying she came because she doesn't want Adama to worry about her…she knows what he has to do. Sure…she was kinda all about Bill before deciding she wasn't going to let Zarek assume the presidency and everything…but maybe if he'd mentioned her at all while they were dodging mutineers it would have more resonance.

Not that it isn't a lovely moment…it is…and well…this could be the last time they see each other and all…so it's nice for them to have a chance to say a potential good-bye. A short one…because three fire teams are on their way…time for action.

I love the way Laura calmly stands while Adama starts barking orders for Tyrol to take everyone back the way they came…Tigh, too. And of course Tigh's not having that…he's come too far to walk out on Bill now. I also sorta love that Lee doesn't argue when Adama tells Kara he's staying behind to make sure the president's Raptor gets away safely. Awesome.

Apparently someone let Kelly out of the brig…he's leading the teams to the airlock…and again, nice continuity there. Totally makes sense he'd be on board with Gaeta and Zarek. He'll probably have to be added to the Those Who Need to Die list though. :D

Baltar kinda begging Bill and Laura to speed it along is made of win…things are amping up and getting tense. Kelly's crew is blow torching the door and again…I'm willing to hand wave the fact that in ADitL it was supposedly going to take forever to cut through the blast doors because I'm kinda on the edge of my seat here, you know? I'm sure it's some kind of different door anyway.

So...Adama and Tigh are making their last stand…and Roslin is safely away on the Raptor…

Cool.

BACK TO RECAPPAGE:

1041 HRS - CIC

Hrm…you gotta wonder at the people Gaeta picked to man the CIC, you know? They're only just now figuring out where the Raptor went?

Heh…Raptor 619 isn't responding to Gage's hails. They're not stupid.

YAY! Hot Dog and Narcho are on CAP and Felix wants Narcho on a scrambled line. Whew. I was going to be truly stabby if Hot Dog was involved. And yes…it's possible he is…but right now I'm totally denying that fact. *LOL*

Frak me. What are Gaeta's orders? Arm all weapons…engage the target…and destroy. At least he took five seconds to think about it. Awesome shots of everyone while they waited to see if he had the balls to do it. He apparently does.

Back with the Butch and Sundance…er…Tigh and Adama…Bill coulda gone over with Roslin. Not a chance…Adama couldn't have lived with it. Damn straight. If he's going down…it's going to be on his ship. THAT'S how it should be, IMO.

He should also take the fight to them…which he does by firing off a round of shots as soon as the seal is broken…then it's time to wait…it's been an honor serving with Tigh. More repeat refrains from previous episodes…I think I like that.

What I don't like? The fire team pulling the pin, saying fire in the hole, tossing it in…then taking cover for…

BLAST!

Fade to black

To Be Continued…

ARGH!!!!!!

And the credits roll…

Frak, frak, FRAK!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Wow…where to start? How about with Felix? It's interesting that Baltar tells him he's an honorable man, yet Gaeta pretty much chose to align himself with former Pegasus crew like Narcho and the Sunshine Boys who seem to be dodgy on the honor part. Not only that…but two of his key people didn't hesitate to find him guilty and TRIED TO HAVE HIM AIRLOCKED. Seriously…what does that say about how whacked shit is right now? As for Kelly…well…that's the one person who does make sense, IMO.

Roslin. Good to see her back on track. Sort of. She seemed determined to not get sucked back in…even when she couldn't help herself by offering words of wisdom and advice. She might want to live life in the moment and only for herself, but here's hoping she pulls it together and realizes that it's never that simple…no matter how much she's earned the right to do so.

One thing that struck me while watching is the irony of how many times she's had to make a deal with the devil to accomplish what she needs to…and it's usually Baltar and/or Zarek playing that role. Oddly enough they seemed to keep the each other in check. But not anymore. Zarek is an entirely different ball of wax at this point.

Partners in All Things Great…doesn't that kind of say it all? It's so much fun watching them together…speaking without saying a word, counting on each other, etc, etc, etc.

Adama…you know…once this is all over you have to wonder if he'll be able to come back from this. Pi and I were talking about it…how will he EVER be able to trust anyone again? He said it himself…there'll be no forgiveness or amnesty this time. Or will there? Will necessity force the issue to keep Galactica running? It's going to be interesting to find out.

And that finally brings me to Zarek…I firmly believe he's got no clue how they'll proceed past the point of NOT allying themselves with the Cylons. He'll try to get the Quorum and probably the fleet so lathered up about it all so they DON'T think it through. As Lee pointed out…Zarek isn't completely wrong…and he will use that the gain the foothold he so greatly desires.

And where it used to be a much more gray type area…I get a much stronger feeling that it's all about Zarek's quest for greatness now. Not sure I like that…but I'm more than willing to go along for the ride to see where it takes him. My thought at the moment is his singular pursuit of glory will lead to his downfall. I think he crossed a line when he killed Laird…his hands are stained with blood which is hopefully going to bite him on the ass. Maybe by the next episode.

Here's hoping.

And that's it for now…Blood on the Scales is up next…I'm prepping for another edge of my seat viewing session. From the previews it's going to get even more hairy than it already is. Yikes! Bets are still open on the body count…take your best guess and see the bookie on the way out.

Catch everyone on the flip!
