Yeah, she (Michelle, I think? I can't remember) was definitely lying and knew at that point she was going to nominate Tiffany. And she had to know that after about 15 failed attempts to fry eggs Ramsey would toss Tiffany rather than Joanna. But the funny thing is, that happens every season (this is the third). The nominating person always tells the worst of the bunch they won't be leaving and then nominates them, and there are never any repercussions for it. I think she should have just said she didn't know yet what she was going to do. And the chef guy (Gordon Ramsey) is much meaner than any of the contestants, so he won't be bothered by it. It's a crazy show -- probably the hardest to watch of all reality tv show's because there's so much shouting and crying and so many temper tantrums, and most of those come from the host himself! But I'm a little twisted, so I love it.

I'm not terribly impressed with NFNS so far, although I suppose I can see why they kept Colombe (she *did* win the first challenge) the only reason I can see that they kept Rory is because she's a woman. And pretty.

The cakes were all over the place and quite frankly, none were impressive. I really, really hope that the wedding couple got Duff's cake at their wedding, because free catering or not, I want a cake that doesn't look like I could have decorated it!

The guy not telling the other one that he put chicken broth in was pathetic and bitchy and given that the show is as much about personality as talent, it shows a side of you that you shouldn't want seen!

I didn't watch Hell's kitchen because I see no point in watching it until they're down to the few that have the chops to actually win.

Yay, you reminded me of a bunch of NFNS stuff I'd forgotten! ITA about Colombe and she's also kind of pretty and might come off well on TV if she had the right kind of show. I'd love to see what would happen to her on a show like HK, though. I'm guessing complete meltdown. I didn't think Rory was pretty, at all, mainly because of her enormous teeth. But Vivien was all but incomprehensible because of her accent, and between that and the strange salad and her awful cake, she had to go. Patrick I don't know about. I thought he was okay and I would have gotten rid of Rory before him. Maybe they're trying to keep the gender balance equal, though ( ... )

I agree about Colombe, but at the same time I think she's a bit too bland--they have some big personalities (unless you're Alton in which you're just quirky and hella smart) that she doesn't have. A lot of people think that they'll keep her around because they want a female to win.

I don't disagree with Vivien's boot--there was no way she was going to win, but I do think that Patrick deserved at least one more chance.

As for HK, the fact that they cast so much cannon fodder is one of the reasons I don't like to watch it. I understand that the fodder makes for better tv, but Ramsey is (understandably) biased to those with training or real professional experience (as in not short-order cooks) so we know that they don't have a chance of winning (unless they particularly happen to capture Ramsey's eye for other reason) so they just seem like a waste of space to me.

YMMV.

I'm kinda wondering if they don't want to try a combined cooking/fitness show, and that's why they're keeping Colombe around and possibly giving her a winner edit. She is pretty bland. And Amy and Nikki both are women with more personality. ITA about Patrick & Vivien.

Interestingly, there's a short order cook (the Julia I mention in my post) on this round of HK that I think may make it very far. She can cook, he liked her signature dish, and she's used to working under intense pressure and getting a lot of orders prepared to go out at the same time. She just doesn't have experience with haute cousine and that's the main thing GRRR can give her. She's one of the least cannon-fodderish of the bunch. I think they'll get rid of the unhealthy, the jackasses, and the flat-out incompetent before they get rid of someone with actual restaurant experience.

Hmmm. I need some food icons over here!
