NFNS

So far the only ones I like are Adrien and Nikki. And maybe Amy. Paul’s a cutie, but he’s a little too bouncy and outspoken for me. Rory grates. JAG is too full of himself. Oh, I think Salmon’s probably okay, but I don’t remember him all that well. Tommy is good for comic relief, but I don’t see him going all that far. He reminds me so much of Newman on Seinfeld. I do like this year’s challenges so far. But boy, did some of those wedding cakes look awful! There was very obviously a wide gap between the orange and green teams in terms of cooking competence, but this competition is designed to find a personality, more than a chef, so I’m not sure that means much at this point. You'd think I'd have more to say after a two hour show, but I don't. Maybe next week.

Hell's Kitchen

Ahhhhh! My mean cooking competition TV show is back! GRRRR I have missed you so! And the bleeps and shouting and food thrown at people! Wheeee!

First impressions:

Most of these people are pretty clueless. Their signature dishes were pretty unexciting and not easy to execute under the circumstances. Some individuals stand out, though.

The minute one of those girls said, “no back-stabbing until the boys are gone,” I knew the girls were going to turn on each other first chance they got. The anti-Waffle House snobbiness was ridiculous and cost them a teammate. Fortunately it was the teammate who most deserved to go, but it was still idiotic of them. For Pete’s sake, why would you not have the short order cook frying the eggs?!?

Individuals:

-Vinnie - Ugh. He thinks he’s so cute, and he’s going to spend the whole season smarting off to GRRR and annoying me. At least there will be a righteous smackdown at some point.

- Joanna - Yeah, you’re bossy, but if you don’t have some ability to back it up, you won’t last long.

- Crying Asian Cowboy - This morning I have forgotten his name. I probably blocked it out. Do they advertise for characters like this? He’s just painful to watch.

- Rock - Seems to be fairly self-aware and a decent cook. He has the most potential out of the guys at this point.

- Eddie - My second favorite of the guys, and I think he’s a lot more than just a gimmick for the show. At least, I hope so.

- Other guys - Most of the guys sort of melded together for me. I think there’s a Brad who did a good job and a Josh who was kind of annoying. But I can’t remember.

- Bonnie - I’m worried she is going to fall into the dumb blonde stereotype but hoping she doesn’t.

- Almost Fainting Girl - I don’t know. She has some potential, but she seems a little too wide-eyed and innocent for this show.

- Other girls. I think there are some? Again, not much standing out to me, yet.

- Julie - I would love for her to win the whole thing. Not saying she will, but at this point she’s my underdog favorite. The cliquish snobbery towards you made me mad, you have restaurant experience and a good head on your shoulders. Please quit crying, though. GRRR hates crying.

- Tiffany - You’re gone and I’m glad. It’s especially obnoxious to be a cooking snob when you can’t cook yourself.

In other food news, all of the lettuce in the salad I had with dinner last night was from my garden!

In HP news, I have mixed feelings about the OotP movie release date being moved. I can’t switch what day I’m seeing it, really, and I’ve already asked someone to take time off work to see it with me and we had the beginnings of a movie-going group for it. And I don’t like taking days off in the middle of the week, plus I’m already doing that the week before because of the 4 th of July Holiday. But I did want to see it on opening day. I guess I just ... won’t now.
