Been awhile since I did a late night/early morning youTube Mars video marathon. Started off with some current South America clips, but one of the clips was of "The Kill" and youTube started recommending ABL era versions. Went off on a bit of a detour. Then came back and watched a couple of songs from a Detroit acoustic.
Watching the clips of J during the ABL era vs J during LLFD, I was trying to drill down the key difference. Forget the look, the difference in him. During ABL, J was hungry. Now, during LLFD, he has a sort of grace he didn't have before. I didn't watch anything from TIW, because I connect less to that era, but I guess that would have shown the in between step. Not sure what the word for that would be. Determined?
But I think I needed that. The mix of nostalgia and appreciation for who he is now. 42 looks damn good on him. The crown suits him. He went from a cult to a kingdom. ;) Makes me wonder what is next for Mars.
I should go back and do the S/T. Hmmmm. I guess then, more than any other era, he had something to prove. The old "actors can't sing" cliche. LOL. He has since obliterated that one.
One of the clips I watched of ABL era "The Kill" had him climbing the scaffolding at one of the outside festivals. :) S/T - something to prove, to themselves as well. ABL - the climb. TIW - the battle. LLFD - the view from the summit?
I think his acting has hit that same stage of grace. Rayon and the DBC Award season.
So what's next? From what he's shown us. Mellow and thoughtful.
My mind is veering off the music and onto something more personal. One of the clips from Argentina was J with a cute little boy. Still think it will be criminal if he and Shan don't have babies someday. The way their faces light up.
Will our eternal bachelors finally settle down? It's more likely now than it ever was. You build your kingdom and you want someone to share it with. Maybe a few more years. But soon. ;) Shanny has a whole new venture in the works. The coffee thing. Yeah, a few years sounds about right.
I think they'll make that transition at the same time. J and Shan. Finding someone who's more than a fuck. Kirstina was looking like she had potential, but I think she was just someone for Shan to hold onto for awhile, while he was rebuilding himself. I've got a feeling he already outgrew her.
Seems like an odd note to stop on, but that's when the words ran out. Bed time for me. XOXO
